Total Chaos was one one of the five haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights X. It was located in Soundstage 22 along with Anxiety in 3-D.
History and Location[]
Like the previous two years, two haunted houses would be featured in Soundstage 22 during Halloween Horror Nights X, one of which was Total Chaos (and the other being Anxiety in 3-D). Soundstage 22 is one of the smaller soundstage facilities designed to be used as filming locations for movies and television shows.
This house is considered to be one of the first sci-fi haunted houses, as it contained aliens and other space themes. This is also the most famous house to feature a slide.
Description[]
Wander through a top secret underground military base where captured aliens are on the loose and thirsting for blood.
Story[]
The house would take guests through an Area 51 type place with escaped aliens terrorizing the facility.
Concept[]
(Excerpt from this)
The following is from Universal Art and Design's presentation manuscript of HHNX- Not Afraid Of The Dark? You Don't Know Jack!
Screamscape (later re-named Total Chaos)
Location: Soundstage 22
Travel through an abandoned space fortress where the darkness is alive and thirsting for human blood. Guests become survivors as they are forced to evacuate through the futuristic setting of the house. The alarm blares out its warning as we are clustered together in a group of eight, moving quickly into a turbo-shaft elevator. The lift rises us eight feet into the air. When the opposite doors open a mirrored abyss spreads out in front of us. The only way across is an unstable suspension bridge. We step out onto the wire, when a body falls through the air and below into the darkness of the abyss. The elevator doors have closed and there is no turning back. We force ourselves to cautiously move forward into the unknown surroundings, through fog encased pathways, down slides and through disorienting lights, and deafening sound to safety. Be afraid of the dark, for lurking at every corner is a Grotesque Creature that thirsts and feeds on your fears.
Experience[]
Entrance[]
The entrance was lit with red lights. Between the soundstage pillars were a large sign with the words "HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS" and two smaller signs with the words "TOTAL CHAOS" and "ANXIETY", showing the way to the eponymous haunted houses.
Walkthrough[]
The house was decorated to look like a military base and according to some accounts an abandoned spaceship. Guests would be chased down darkened corridors by escaped aliens.
At one point, guests would run into an elevator which would take guests to an upper level. Via a pair of slides, guests would descend into a four-foot-wide room filled with small, glowing balls. They were blasted with air to ensure they would get to their feet, and when they did this they were blinded by a strong flash of light. When their eyes adjusted, they would spot decapitated heads seemingly floating around in the air. As the guests moved through the ball pit, a scareactor portraying an alien creature would scare them from above and behind, accompanied by a loud scream.
