Tlahuelpuchi is a vampric creature that was featured in the El Pueblo Del Terror scarezone during Halloween Horror Nights 2022 (Hollywood) and it would later return the following in a house Monstruos: The Monsters of Latin America haunted house that goes deep into the lore of the creature and two other infamous creatures during Halloween Horror Nights 2023 (Hollywood).
Backstory[]
This creature comes from the Tlaxcala Region of Mexico, its a witch and a vampire, some people believe that its history goes back as far as Aztec times. In the common of the Tlaheulpuchi is that anyone could be it and they would not know until they had reach their puberty. The Tlahuelpuchi has a very specific ceremony in which it transforms into one of a series of animals, the most common is a turkey vulture and it would fly to a house of its victim and would suck the blood of its victim and not like any ordinary vampire.
Transformation[]
According to John Murdy when researching the creature for the Monstryos: The Monsters of Latin America Haunted House for Halloween Horror Nights 2023 (Hollywood) he realized that the transformation for the female Tlalhuelpuchis had to be very specific. They set a big roaring fire in the middle of the floor of their house. They would have to use specific wood, specific spices and then they would have to walk back and forth into the flames in the shape of a cross multiple times and when done they have to sit in the fire and their legs detach and then they begin to transform into a bird. Murdy thought the idea was pretty cool and made the scene the first scene guests witness the Tlahuelpuchi's ritual as the first scene of their lair in the house.
