Description[]

Fall victim to the silver screen's most deplorable killers, whose affinity for bladed weapons, redefined the horror movie genre as slasher films: Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) wielding his iconic chainsaw, Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) brandishing his relentless machete, and Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) swiping his trademark glove armed with razor blades.

The new maze will be an assault on your sensibilities as you descend into the forbidden realms of these iconic horror monsters and discover the place where these depraved legacies were born.

Experience[]

Facade[]

The facade was Tobe's home with Halloween decorations on it. Many of the Halloween decorations on the facade were themed to Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Guests would then enter the house.

Haunted Maze[]

Guests would then enter Tobe's room and see him on his bed breathing heavily with a Jason mask on. His room was fully decked out with horror memorabilia of Jason, Freddy, and Leatherface. Guests then saw a TV on the right that showed the Screecher announcing the triple feature. Guests then exited the scene and entered Tobe's Nightmare.

Guests walked down a black hallway with a red revolving light before turning right where Freddy Krueger popped out. Guests then entered the Freddy's Boiler Room.

In the Boiler Room was fences with people behind them. They were being controlled like puppets from their tendons. Freddy Krueger shoved his claw through someone's chest and then popped out on the other side before guests left the scene.

Guests continued on where Freddy Krueger then popped out of the boiler to scare guests. Then, there were missing children posters on the wall that lit up with UV lights to show their skulls. Guests then saw a bunch of skeleton children surrounding a cradle, which Freddy Krueger then popped out of.

Guests then entered a scene with a red light shining. Freddy Snake could be seen on the ground as a kid was all the way in his mouth except for his feet which shook. Guests then entered a black room where the Freddy Snake popped out to scare guests.

Guests then entered a hallway with a green revolving ight where Jason Voorhees popped out at the end.

Then, guests entered Camp Crystal Lake where there was lots of foliage. The Beartrap Kill Victim could be seen on a cooler screaming in pain as Jason Voorhees popped out with a machete. Guests then saw the Camp Crystal Lake sign had crushed someone as they then entered a bus, which served as the entrance to Jason's Lair.

In Jason's Lair was a bunch of fog. In the first room, Jason Voorhees popped out and guests entered a short transition where Jason Voorhees popped out again. Then guests entered Jason's bedroom, where Jason Voorhees popped out one more time. Guests then moved past hanging bodies.

Guests then entered an orange revolving light tunnel and entered the Muerto County Slaughterhouse.

Guests entered the Slaughterhouse and saw Leatherface popping out from an elevated boo hole. After that, guests entered a scene with Chop Top Sawyer and Grandpa Sawyer. Grandpa was trying to a hit a victim over a bucket with his hammer. Leatherface then burst through a door with his chainsaw.

Next, guests entered a scene where Leatherface ripped off the face of a victim laying down a table as they screamed. He then attempted to put it on guests' face. Guests would go further and see Leatherface sawing someone in half with his chainsaw as they screamed.

Guests then entered a black hallway where Jason Voorhees popped out, followed by Freddy Krueger, and then finally Leatherface. Guests then exited the maze.

Trivia[]

  • The codename for this maze was "UberFan".
  • This maze reused many elements from previous Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre Mazes amongst other mazes.
  • Apparently, Michael Myers was going to be the third section of this maze originally, but he was replaced with Leatherface. The reason for this replacement is unknown [1].
  • This maze replaced a maze codenamed "The Big Chill" which was heavily rumored to be The Conjuring [2].
  • The films that inspired this maze were A Nightmare on Elm Street Dream Warriors, Dream Child, Freddy Vs Jason, the Friday the 13th Remake, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 [3].
  • Murdy decided to make the facade the exterior of a normal house that was done up for Halloween by the ultimate fan of these movies. The decor would all be things a fan could easily buy or make [4].
  • The sound design in the facade was meant to have generic Halloween sound effects as an homage to home haunt [5].
  • The mailbox referenced the logo of "Campus Life Haunted House", which depicted a mailbox with a hand coming out of it. The mailbox address "1428 Sawyer Lake Road" was referencing Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Sawyer), Friday (Lake), and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1428) [6].
  • There were many homages to Sean S. Cunningham (who made Friday the 13th), Wes Craven (who made A Nightmare on Elm Street), and Tobe Hooper (who made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) in the facade and kids room.
  • Some of John Murdy's collection and masks from the past houses of Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface were featured in Tobe's room [7].
  • All the details Murdy wrote down in the treatment for Tobe's Bedroom scene were there, down to the Freddy Sweater sheets [8].
  • John Murdy appeared on a television screen in this maze in the opening scene as a horror host called The Screecher. All of the segments as The Screecher were filmed in the defunct Shrek 4D preshow room [9].
  • The Screecher, was an homage to Seymour, an LA Horror Host from the 70s[10].
  • They used a simple technique to transition between scenes, textured colored spinning gobos with hazers. Red for Freddy, green for Jason and orange for Leatherface. [11].
  • Murdy voiced Freddy Krueger in this maze and his daughter, Izzy, had a cameo in the maze on the missing children's posters [12].
  • For Freddy, they concentrated the action in his lair. It started with the marionette victims (Dream Warriors) and featured a really cool kill with Freddy driving his glove through a victim [13].
  • The baby carriage scene featured a cool effect where “Missing Children” pics of Freddy’s children turned into skeletons via invisible UV paint and UV strobe lights. The whole set also had an invisible UV overlay [14].
  • The Freddy Snake for this maze was rebuilt [15].
  • The gobo transition to the Jason section had a cool scare at the end. Jason waiting in total darkness ready to strike. The lamp for the gobo had a blinding effect so guests hopefully wouldn’t see the scare coming [16].
  • Murdy voiced Pamela Sue Voorhees for this maze [17].
  • Murdy stated that Pamela Sue Voorhees was in the Jason Section at the start at his grave however in the maze she was not present [18].
  • Outside the bus there was a Camp Counselor who had the Camp Crystal Lake sign fall on them [19].
  • The sound design for the Beartrap Kill Victim is actually audio from Hostel when Paxton kills the Dutch Businessman.
  • This maze was the first time in the history of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre at Hollywood where you went into a Slaughterhouse [20].
  • Murdy always wanted to dress up like “The Screecher” one night and scare guests at the exit but it never happened [21].
