The Unknown was one of the three scarezones that was featured during Halloween Horror Nights XI. It was located in Central Park.

History and Location

In 2001, Universal decided to have another scarezone located in Central Park. Central Park is a small wooded area connecting World Expo to Hollywood. There are two paths, one going along the Universal Lagoon and the other going through the trees. The scarezone would be located in the second of these two paths.

The scarezone was most likely originally going to be called Dead Zone. However, the name was changed to The Unknown due to the 9/11 terror attacks, as the word "Dead" seemed inappropriate at the time.

Scarezone

The scarezone was very Gothic in nature, and featured many gargoyle-like creatures. A giant sign was hung above Central Park showing the entrance to the scarezone. There were also scareactors shaking cans to make rattling noises and banging on objects to make loud crashing noises. Some of these scareactors would blend into the trees by wearing plant costumes while others would blend into the darkness by wearing black robes. Periodic lightning would also flash through the scarezone.
