The Psycho Path Maze was one of the three haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights III. It came back the following year for Halloween Horror Nights IV. It was located in the Bates Motel both years and was based off of the movie Psycho. This house had a sequel during Halloween Horror Nights IX called Psycho: Through the Mind of Norman Bates.

History and Location

In 1993, Universal Studios Florida decided to make a Psycho house for their Hallloween Horror Nights event that year, so they built a tent behind the Bates Motel facade that they had in the World Expo area of the park. The facade was a recreation of the famous Bates Motel and the Bates House (which was up on a hill). The house would use actual props from the movie Psycho IV: The Beginning, and would take guests through famous scenes from the Psycho franchise.

This house was so popular that they decided to bring it back the following year in 1994. This incarnation of the house had most of the popular rooms from the 1993 house, as well as several added scenes. These two houses would be the only ones located in The Bates Motel, as the facade was destroyed in the mid 1990s to make room for Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone.

The house would get a sequel in 1999 titled Psycho: Through the Mind of Norman Bates, in which guests are transported into Norman's crazed mind as he is confined in the Fairvayle Sanitarium.

Check into the Bates Motel and venture down the Psycho Path, if you dare. This new maze of madness fuels your deepest fears as you are chased by Mother Bates further and further into the darkness.

Experience

Queue and Facade

In 1993, guests would enter the queue in front of the Bates Motel facade. The facade was the Bates Motel and the Bates House. However, in 1994 it seemed that guests would enter the house in front of the facade for the Bates House and not the Bates Motel like the year before.

Haunted House

In the house there was a scene called "The Closet" and it featured a closet filled with clothes. Norman Bates' Mother would jump out from behind these clothes with a knife. Another room featured a painting above a fireplace and Norman Bates dressed as his mother would pop out of the painting. There was also a kitchen scene where Norman dressed as his mother would come out of a cupboard. One of the final rooms featured the shower scene from Psycho. Norman Bates dressed as his mother would stab a mannequin that represents Marion Crane from behind a curtain while the famous Shower Scene music played. He would then jump out at guests as they walked by.

According to this, there may have also been some black and white rooms, as well as scenes depicting the mind of Norman Bates. Allegedly, somewhere in this house guests got blood slung at them. There may have also been a scene with a moving bed, and a refrigerator guests' could open for a disgusting surprise.

The 1994 version of the house included several new scenes, including a graveyard and an attic.
