History & Location[]
On June 23, 2022, Universal announced that a new Horrors of Blumhouse haunted house would be coming to that year's Halloween event after having two previous ones in the past. The house would be based on both Blumhouse Production's Freaky and their at the time recent film The Black Phone.
This would be the first haunted house located in the Fast & Furious Location. The houses in this location would be held in both the extended queue for the Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction as well as a tent held backstage near the queue.
The codename for the house was Towel because Two sides of a towel, two properties.
Description[]
Shriek through two Blumhouse masterpieces. Face a frantic teen and a serial killer who’ve swapped bodies in Freaky. Then in the terrifying The Black Phone you’ll find yourself kidnapped by The Grabber.
Step inside a new double-feature of Blumhouse horror. Your scream squad will find yourselves trapped between a frantic teen and the ruthless serial killer she’s swapped bodies with in Freaky. Then, you’ll try to make a desperate escape from the dark basement of The Grabber before you become his latest victim in the terrifying The Black Phone.
“The Horrors of Blumhouse” will transport guests into an alternate dimension where the scares are real and the stakes are life or death. In The Black Phone, which hits theatres June 24, “The Grabber” is a demented magician best known for his sinister trick of making people disappear – permanently. Guests will find themselves trapped in his “fun” house where the sound of ghostly voices whisper hints on how to escape, but guests must tread carefully to outwit and outrun “The Grabber’s” twisted magic. Freaky will challenge guests to outrun serial killer “The Butcher” who has switched bodies with a high school girl after being cursed by The La Dola Dagger, an ancient Aztec blade. Guests will learn firsthand that looks can be deceiving as they encounter the sweet-looking teen who is actually “The Butcher” – and she is determined to hunt for their next victims.
Experience[]
Queue and Facade[]
Guests would enter the queue to the left of the entrance to the Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction. The line would go through a gate backstage, where it would loop around the side of the ride building. The queue would then enter the building from the side, and lead into the actual queue for the ride. Guests would wind their way through the first warehouse room as the intro music from Freaky played. Guests would go into the next room of the queue, where a projection showing both the logos for the haunted house and the movie Freaky could be seen on a wall. Guests would enter the house through a door below the projection.
Haunted House[]
When guests walk through the door, they would immediately be thrust into the Freaky film. A wall of masks could be seen directly in front of them, with one of the masks being missing. Turning the corner, guests would find the corpse of Ginny pinned to the wall with a spear. Guests would see a broken through glass door, as the Blissfield Butcher, wearing the missing mask, attacked them on their right. Guests would pass by a dresser with the La Dola dagger on it in a glass case. The chant could be heard and its left eye would glow periodically. Entering into the wine cellar, guests would find the corpse of Isaac with a bottle shoved in his throat. The Blissfield Butcher would then jump out from behind the door on the left.
The next room featured the Blissfield Beaver sitting on a bench. The Blissfield Butcher would jump out at guests while they were distracted on the left. Turning the corner, guests could see Millie Kessler in a beaver costume lying upright on the football field. Thunder would crash as her image became replaced with that of the Blissfield Butcher. The Butcher himself would then jump out in front of her and attack guests. Turning the corner, guests would see a wall, which would then disappear revealing the La Lola Dagger with its left eye glowing.
Guests would then enter the Old Mill where the silhouette of Millie waking up in the body of the Blissfield Butcher could be seen. Cooter Scriggins would jump out on the left at the end of the room. Guests would then enter Blissfield High School, where Millie would jump out of a locker with a knife to startle guests. Continuing into the woodshop classroom, guests would find Millie sawing Mr. Bernardi in half with a table saw. At the end of the room, guests would be startled by a panel dropping to reveal the frozen corpse of Ryler standing behind it.
Guests would then walk towards the Old Mill, where Millie would jump out again on the left. Inside the Old Mill, guests could see Millie using a chainsaw to mutilate Brett's groin. Further on into the room, guests would find Phil on the wall. Millie's hand would come out from behind him and stab him in the eye with a sickle. At the end of the scene, Millie would jump out next to a large window holding a knife.
Going into the next room, guests could see the silhouettes of Millie and the Blissfield Butcher struggle as they fought over the dagger. Millie (in the Butcher's body) would stab the Butcher (in Millie's body) thus causing their bodies to switch back. Guests would then encounter another disappearing wall with the La Dola Dagger behind it. Guests would continue winding down the Homecoming party corridors before coming across the Blissfield Butcher getting shot by unseen policemen. They would then exit the Freaky section.
Guests would find themselves outside in front of a giant black wall with the logo for The Black Phone on it. Guests would enter the latter half of the house through this wall. Guests would walk through a fenced in hallway with missing posters for the missing children in the film on either side of them. Guests would come face to face with the back of The Grabber's van, the back of which was filled with balloons. The Grabber would jump out to the left of the van holding balloons. After that, guests would wind their way down a hallway full of balloons, as the Grabber attacked from both sides, the one on the right spraying guests with a spray can.
Finding themselves in The Grabber's Basement, guests would see Finney Blake walking back and forth behind the bed on the floor. They would then be attacked by the Grabber popping out on the right. After that, they would enter a hallway with a ringing black phone at the end, while the ghost of Vance Hopper popped out from a concealed hole in the wall. Vance would then appear once again, jumping out from a doorway after the guests turned left. Another black phone was then seen, this time with the voice of Billy the Newspaper Boy heard through it. Entering into The Grabber's Kitchen, guests would find the Grabber himself sitting on a chair in the middle of the room snoring and unmoving. Guests would continue through his house, finding a door with loud crashes and Samson's barking behind it, and The Grabber popping out on the right.
Guests would then find themselves in a pitch-black hallway, where The Grabber would attack on the left and again on the right. The walls before the hallway would occasionally become semi-transparent, revealing the ghosts of the Grabber's past victims Bruce Yamada, Billy The News Paper Boy, Griffin Stagg, Vance Hopper and Robin Arellano and a door. Two drop doors would also be encountered in this hallway, one of them revealing the dead body of Griffin Stagg. Guests would pass by a wall that would disappear revealing the Grabber holding balloons, before entering the living room. A posterboard of the missing children could be seen as the Grabber attacks guests from behind. At the end of another hallway, guests would be attacked by the Grabber wielding an axe on the left.
Guests would find themselves back in the basement, with the corpse of Max laying on the mattress. The Grabber would then jump out with an axe from behind guests while they were distracted. Winding down another hallway, guests would come across Finney strangling the Grabber, who is stuck in the floor. Before exiting the house, guests would be attacked by the Grabber on the left, who would yell at guests as they exited the building.

- In the announcement video, the parking lot the couple are in is H31. A reference to it being the 31st Year of the Event [1].
- This house was different from previous Blumhouse haunted houses as it was two retellings of films with twists along the way [2].
- There was a Legendary Truth Sticker in the Mansion Scene of Freaky but it had to be removed due to Guests. [3].
- Two paintings from Revenge of the Tooth Fairy were reused in the Freaky portion.
- They used a Pepper's Ghost Effect to do the body swap[4].
- There were multiple easter eggs in the school section in the Freaky portion:
- "Has anyone seen Mrs. Tracy's Class Hamster? Goes by the Name of "Swamp Yeti"." As a post-it note. Reference to Attack of the Swamp Yeti from Slaughter Sinema.
- "Sign up for this year’s Science Fair "Bugs!" in Mr. Hewitt's Classroom by October 31st" as a post-it note. Reference to Bugs: Eaten Alive.
- "Join the Paranormal Investigation Society! Contact Claudia Cryptidhunter@gmail.com" as a post-it note.
- "B.V.H.S Charity Haunted House" as a post-it note.
- The effect for the Buzzsaw Kill in the Freaky Portion was the same as the Arbor Day Scene from H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror[5].
- There was a spider hidden in every house during Halloween Horror Nights 31. The spider in this house was on the windowsill of the first Old Mill scene of the Freaky portion.
- "Don't Fear the Butcher" was written on a whiteboard near the end of the Freaky section as a reference to the song, "Don't Fear the Reaper"[6].
- The Freaky portion of the house was in the extended queue of Fast and Furious while the Black Phone portion was in a tent built backstage.
- There was supposed to be an outside chainsaw scare before entering the Black Phone facade, but it was never added [7].
- All of the kid's photos on the posters in the opening hallway for The Black Phone portion are child photos of the Art and Design Department [8].
- Finney Blake's poster is on the wall in the transition to The Black Phone.
- In the Black Phone portion, the van in the van scene is half of a van. Due to spacing they couldn't build an entire van, so they built half of one[9].
- The Black Balloons in the House are Black Playground Balls.
- There were six Black Phones in The Black Phone portion. A few of them are screen used from the Film[10].
- The rotary phones that guests would walk past were actually functional and could be rotated.
- They wanted The Grabber in the kitchen to be a static figure as a way to build on the suspense. The Static Figure has it's eyes closed.
- The Stove in the Kitchen is the exact same one from the Movie and the Art and Director Person had to go all the way out to Tampa to get it.
- In the second basement scene for The Black Phone portion, the receiver of the phone was missing due to it being taken by Finney to strangle The Grabber like in the film[11].
- On the final night of the event, The Grabber static figure that was in the kitchen was replaced by an actor.
- The Actor who played Millie Kessler in the movie is the actually not used within the house. However, every time Millie acts or grunts is the only time they use Kathryn Newton.
- Due to the house using the Fast and Furious extended queue, the outside area, and two tents to further lengthen the house, this is the longest house Halloween Horror Nights has created.
