The Cabin in the Woods was one of the eight haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights 23. It was located in Soundstage 21 along with Resident Evil: Escape From Raccoon City. The house was based off of the movie by the same name.

History and Location[]

On June 27th, 2013, Universal announced that a haunted house based on the movie The Cabin in the Woods would be coming that years event. The house would feature many of the best scenes from the movie, including the cabin itself and the laboratory under the cabin.

The house would be one of two located in Soundstage 21, the other one being Resident Evil: Escape From Raccoon City. Soundstage 21 is one of the larger soundstage facilities designed to be used as filming locations for movies and television shows. These two houses would be the first two haunted houses located in Soundstage 21.

Experience a live recreation of the film that ripped the horror genre inside out. Beneath the cabin’s rustic appearance lies a secret facility that unleashes terrifying beings that you thought only existed in nightmares.

Queue and Facade[]

Guests would enter the queue to the left of the Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem ride. The queue would go along a backstage path behind Rip Ride Rockit before guests entered Soundstage 21 on the left side. On one of the walls of Soundstage 18 was a video showing how everything in Cabin in the Woods worked, more specifically how each monster is picked for a yearly human sacrifice to keep The Ancient Ones resting under the Earth.

Once guests entered the soundstage, they saw a video screen mounted on a wall, displaying a facility worker informing them not to interact with the human sacrifices. After this, they would be greeted with the outside of the cabin, itself. Jules' decapitated body can be seen slumped in front of a tree below a hacksaw. Guests then walked up the porch and entered the cabin.

Haunted House[]

After entering the cabin, guests would be scared by the supposed-dead body of Holden, as he jolts with life begging for help. Mother Buckner would scare guests from behind, holding Jules' decapitated head. Moving onward, guests found themselves in a hallway with flickering lights as Matthew Buckner attacks them. Turning to the left, they would enter a bedroom, as a two-way mirror distracts guests before being startled by Anna Patience Buckner from behind. Guests enter the cabin's basement, surrounded by various antiques, artifacts and totems. They would be scared by Father Buckner and Judah Buckner from various hiding spots before exiting.

Soon, sirens and alarms are heard as guests enter the underground facility of the cabin, where all of the other monsters are contained. At least, they were contained. Now they've broken loose and are wreaking havoc all throughout the laboratory. Another video screen on the wall shows the same facility member as before, assuring guests that reinforcements are on the way to cease the murderous riot. Guests soon find themselves walking through a hallway of prison cubes, one containing The Sugarplum Fairy and another containing Fornicus, Lord of Bondage and Pain, who would scare guests by suddenly emerging from his cube.

After turning a corner, a display of carnage is seen, the hallway of elevator doors covered in blood with gory remains of staff members surrounding guests. Here, they are startled by The Clown and The Witch while a Zombie feasts on a corpse. Entering the security room, a wall of security footage shows the horrifying pandemonium going on as a Scarecrow bursts from a doorway, scaring guests. In the break room, large tentacles hang from the ceiling as guests are attacked by The Doctors while they operate on a cut-open body. Finally, guests journey through one last hall of broken prison cubes, as the monsters that once occupied them scare them from all sides before exiting the house.
