Experience the most terrifying moments of Seasons 2 & 3 as you come face to face with the shadowy Mind Flayer and its army of creatures that wreak havoc in Hawkins. Brace yourself again for the goose bump-inducing world that awaits.

Experience[]

Facade[]

There was a small projection to the right of the facade showing the title sequence of season 2. Guests would approach a giant black wall. Guests would then enter the maze.

Haunted Maze[]

Guests went down a long black hallway before entering the bathroom. Guests could see Will Byers at the sink coughing up a parasite. The walls behind the bathroom walls would disappear to show the Upside Down.

Guests then entered the Hallways of the Byers House with drawings of Will's tunnel map where Steve Harrington would pop out at guests with a baseball bat.

Guests then go into the living room with more drawings of the tunnel Map along with a large projection outside the windows of the Mind Flayer. Guests would see Joyce Byers in the scene reacting to all of it and then see a static figure of Will Byers at the door looking at the projection.

Guests exit the Byers House and enter the front porch of the house where guests could see a static figure of Will Byers standing in front of the Mind Flayer which had it's arm moving and had projections on it.

Guests then go through a series of Black Walls before entering the Pumpkin Patch. Guests would see a bunch of Rotten Pumpkins along with a Hawkins Power and Light Van on the left and a Scarecrow on the right. Guests would be scared by 2 Hazmat Men in the Scene and then enter the Tunnels.

Guests go down a Hallway to see Joyce Byers in the tunnels with a flashlight with a projection of spores flying around her. Guests then enter a scene where Jim Hopper is behind plexiglass dealing with vines.

Guests entered a area with spore emitters which would shoot water at guests as a Hazmat Man would pop out at guests. Guests then entered a area with 4 Demo Dog scares out of boo holes and a Hazmat Man scare. Guests would then exit the tunnels.

Guests then entered the Hawkins Lab where a Hawkins Lab Scientist would pop out at guests. Guests could see radar of Demo Dogs in the area. A Demo Dog would then scares guests and guests would then be attacked by another Hawkins Lab Scientist behind a door.

Guests then entered the front of the building where the lights were flashing and guests could see Bob Newby being eaten by Demodogs as 2 Demodogs would scare guests out of boo holes.

Guests would then enter a room with black walls and a small projection of the opening title sequence of season 3.

Guests then approached the facade of Hopper's Cabin and entered. Inside the lights were flashing and there were 4 Flayed Minion scares. Guests then went down a black hallway with a Mind Flayer head push out scare and then went down another black hallway to exit the maze.

Trivia[]

  • John Murdy had said that this house was going to be a much darker maze than its predecessor, and with a crazy amount of special effects involving the Demodogs, Mindflayer, etc. [1].
  • Many of the design choices made for this maze were in response to suggestions fans made for the first maze, such as a scarier tone and more effects.
  • This maze was based mainly on season 2 with a bit of season 3 at the end [2].
  • Due to initial complaints from guests about a lack of scares in the first half of the maze in the first weeks of the event, performers portraying Steve Harrington and Joyce Byers were added to scenes within the Byers home.
  • Murdy was saving season 3 of the show for a future maze [3].
  • The maze began where season 1 ended, with Will in his bathroom vomiting up that strange parasite that would eventually become the Demodogs [4].
  • The Bathroom scene utilized the “disappearing room” effect, changing from a normal bathroom to a Upside Down Version [5].
  • From there they took guests back through the Byers house that we visited in 2018, only now they're doing it in reverse and the walls are covered with Will’s tunnel maps that he drew after encountering The Mind Flayer [6].
  • All of the drawings in the Byers House were hand drawn [7].
  • Through the front windows in the living room, guests see a massive projection of The Mind Flayer, this was a piece they got from the visual effects team from the show. There was a big room behind the set to house the projector and the giant screen [8].
  • The last thing guests see before they exit the Byers house is Will standing at the open front door [9].
  • And guests step out on to the front porch and meet The Mind Flayer, a giant figure with a performer behind the set operating his arm [10].
  • The black hallway before the pumpkin patch was a short transition where Will Byers was being invaded by the Mind Flayer's tentacles with wind effects happening [11].
  • Guests wind up in a pumpkin patch where all the pumpkins have rotted because of something growing under the ground. The Hawkins National Laboratory employees are there investigating this strange phenomenon and then guests head into the tunnels [12].
  • When guests enter the tunnel they find Joyce looking for Hopper with the spores flying around, a projection effect [13].
  • There was a plexiglass barrier over the opening so guests wouldn’t turn Hopper’s vignette into a trash receptacle [14].
  • The next section of the tunnel they nicknamed “The Car Wash” because it was full of these “spore emitters” which blasted guests with compressed air and water. The prop team made all of these [15].
  • The Demodogs worked similarly to the puppets from An American Werewolf in London with a performer operating them from behind the set with a camera/monitor so they could see the guests approaching [16].
  • The final section of the maze was meant to be a little tease for season 3, kind of like how the maze begins with the end of season 1. Guests entered Hopper’s cabin in the woods right as the monster from season 3 (which we called The Big Bad) is attacking [17].
