Scarecrow: The Reaping (Hollywood) is one of eight haunted mazes that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights 2022 (Hollywood). It was located in Curious George Tent 1.

Description[]

Fear is About to Be Sown!

At an abandoned Depression-era farm, vengeance takes root. The scarecrows are avenging the ravaged land. In this all-new haunted house, the only harvest that will be reaped is your scream squad.

Facade[]

The facade was an abandoned farmhouse covered in vines with fences around the sides. On the left was a BKBK farm truck by Cornstalk and on the right was a scarecrow covered in vines with an auction/foreclosure sign on the fence. Smoke would periodically come out of the chimney. Guests would then enter the house.

Haunted House[]

Guests entered the house and went down a short empty room with vines and cracks in the walls. They would enter another room with a clock and a skeleton on the wall surrounded by vines. After that, they would go down a hallway with hanging vines as a Skelecrow popped out from behind a wall panel on the right and another one popped out from behind a wall panel on the left.

After that guests would enter the dining room where there were crows all throughout the room and dining table. The corpse of the family could be seen with an animatronic crow moving with an eyeball. The shadow of a Dustycrow peered through a wall as they then popped out from a window.

Next, guests entered the kitchen to see newspapers on the wall and multiple static figures of people killed with corn. A scarecrow then popped out from behind a wall panel. Guests then entered the pantry with light peering out and were attacked by Skelecrows on both sides of them from behind wall panels.

Entering the smokehouse, guests would see weapons hanging on the wall. Guests passed skinned rabbits and chickens before being attacked by Barncrow from a boo hole. Guests would pass by intestines hanging down and saw static figures of farmers being stuffed with hay. The same Barncrow popped out from another angle. Guests passed more intestines hanging down before Beastcrow popped out from behind a boo hole with hanging farmers in front of it. Passing through more intestines, guests were attacked by another Barncrow on the left before exiting the smokehouse.

Now outside the barn, guests would see farmers hanging on scarecrow stalks. An outhouse sprayed water at guests as a Seepycrow popped out at guests from behind the outhouse and a Bush Scarecrow popped out at guests from in front of the barn facade. Guests then entered the bard.

In the barn, guests would see ropes hanging down as a scarecrow popped out from a boo hole. Guests then saw a farmer hanging and moving with their guts hanging out. A Seepycrow then popped out from a boo hole. Guests were then attacked by another Barncrow from a boo hole and also the same Seepycrow from another angle. They would later be attacked by the same Barncrow from another side before exiting the barn.

Guests then entered the rookery to see bird poop on the floor and static figures of farmers on the wall surrounded by vines. Water would periodically fall down on guests. Guests passed a dark corner with strings hanging down before entering the hive. In the hive, they would see static figures of Cocooncrows, vines, and crows all throughout the scene. A Cocooncrow would come alive and attack guests from the left. Guests would pass a corner and then be attacked by another Cocooncrow on the right.

After that, guests would enter the cornfield where a scarecrow popped out from the left and a Dustycrow popped out from the right. Guests saw corn all throughout the scene with Farmer Scarecrows on the stalks. Before guests exited the house, Kingcrow popped out at guests. Guests then passed through hanging cornstalks and exited the house.

Trivia[]

  • This was the first time since 2007 that Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood has lifted an idea from their sister park, Orlando.
  • John Murdy considered this house as an "ecological horror story." [1].
  • Manifest Destiny (settle the entire land), Homestead Act, and World War 1 all inspired the backstory for the house. That if you plowed the land, the rain would come [2].
  • The Dust Bowl of the 1930s inspired the scenic of the house along with the plague of locusts as well [3].
  • There were 3 Images that inspired Murdy.
    • The scarecrow from the facade of Orlando [4].
    • The farmhouse with nature reclaiming itself [5].
    • The crows that are in league with the scarecrows [6].
  • Murdy focused in on a phrase from Orlando's house: "The silent sentinels of the land." [7].
  • Most of the families left their houses. The families that stayed behind are at peril with the scarecrows reclaiming their land [8].
  • Like other originals, this house featured several sets, audio, and props from previous houses.
  • They carry the theme of nature reclaiming itself from the facade into the first hallway of the house and into the dining room. The crows have come through the chimney into the living room [9].
  • Murdy provided his voice as the radio news announcer in the house[10].
  • All of the crows in the house had LED red eyes [11].
  • Murdy liked the idea of makeshift furniture and newspaper insulation due to families of the 1930s not being able to buy walls and real furniture which is in the kitchen [12].
  • The newspaper clippings in the kitchen were all about the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.
  • The Seepycrows were people who were human not so long ago so the blood from their wounds was still seeping through their scarecrow wrappings [13].
  • The smokehouse was an environment Murdy liked where people would take their own animals and butcher them [14].
  • The rookery had water spraying on guests as bird poop. This was inspired by Orlando's version of the crow scene [15].
  • The end was the hive where the scarecrows took anyone who stayed on the land and turned them into scarecrows by ripping their guts out and stuffing them with hay. They are the Cocooncrows in the scene [16].
  • The ending featured the leader of the scarecrows known as the Kingcrow who was behind all of this. He was a stilt walker with LED red eyes [17].
  • The cornfield scene was very different from Orlando's version and incorporated the new Kingcrow stiltwalker.
  • In the Cornfield Scene, guests could hear a scream done by John Murdy.
