S.S. Frightanic: Fear in First Class was one of the five haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights VIII. It was located in the Earthquake Queue along with S.S. Frightanic: Carnage Crew.

History and Location[]

In 1997, a record-breaking movie called Titanic was released in theaters. The movie proved to be a smash-hit and blew up in the box office. In 1998, Universal decided to do a horror parody version of the movie as a haunted house. This haunted house would be a dual house (a house with two entrances to two different houses), but unlike previous years, each house got its own place on the map. The houses would having moving ceilings and other water effects to simulate a sinking ship.

Universal would decide to put both of these houses inside the large extended queue for The Earthquake attraction. This house would focus on the fancier areas of the ship. The other side of this house (set in the poorer areas of the ship) would also be located in the Earthquake Queue.

In 2003, the house would get a semi-sequel called Ship of Screams. That house would retain the same theme of a ship controlled by ghosts, but would be set on a completely different ship.

Description[]

Choose your path through an eerie ocean liner that pulled into port years ago with all aboard mysteriously missing. In Fear in First Class you'll explore the darkened staterooms and ballrooms haunted by the ghosts of former passengers.

Story[]

The story of this house was said to be that the luxury liner, The S.S. Frightanic, docked in San Francisco after going to Hawaii. On this trip, the ship reportedly got sucked into a black hole and into another dimension. After arriving at San Francisco, the crew went insane and ghosts haunted the various areas of the dilapidated ship.

Queue and Facade[]

Guests would enter the queue of this house to the left of the entrance for Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue. Outside the entrance was a buoy with a number 13 that had signs showing the logos of Fear in First Class and Carnage Crew on it (from here). The queue would go to a backstage area behind the Earthquake building, where the line would loop around multiple times before entering the Earthquake building from the back. In the line, guests would decide whether they wanted to take the Fear in First Class (left) or Carnage Crew (right) haunted house. At the end of the line, guests would be see the entrance to a large port building.

Haunted House[]

(Information in this section is from this video)

This house would take guests through the fancier areas of the ship. The house made it feel like the ship was moving on the ocean and tried to make guests feel seasick. It also had a few changes in elevation. After passing through the facade, guests would be in a reception area with a female scareactor in a summer dress standing in front of a desk. Guests either took the left path into the Fear in First Class house or they could take the right path into the Carnage Crew house. Guests in this side of the house would enter through the left door of the room. After this, guests would enter a room where the ticket giver would point guests towards the luggage area. In the luggage area guests would see another scareactor jumping out from behind a trunk. After passing a building called "Harbor View", guests would be greeted with a giant ship with two skeletons reenacting the "I'm King of the World" scene from the Titanic movie. Reportedly, there were floating dead bodies in the water on either side of guests.

One of the first rooms after guests entered the ship featured a crewmember jumping out from behind a board. From there the guests entered a wooden corridor with scattered furniture and large pieces of cloth hanging down from the ceiling. Windows also appeared in this corridor with bubbling water visible outside of them. This corridor led into one of the cabins. The next room features a collapsed staircase and an undead barber jumping out of a barbershop door holding a razorblade. Guests would then enter another long transition hallway featuring many windows. Next, guests would enter the bar, where a couple of scareactors can be seen shooting the corks of champagne bottles at people. Slashed paintings of ships could also be seen here.

The guests then entered a ballroom with mannequins portraying guests waltzing around and orchestral music in the background. Among these mannequins were a female scareactor in a ripped ball dress portraying one of the dead passengers. The guests proceeded into another corridor lined with cabin windows with the outside filled with water.

Proceeding into the next corridor, guests would be startled by a skeleton grabbing at them through a receding portrait. From there the guests entered a casino area with paintings on the walls and a human head spinning around on a roulette table. In this room was a billiards table with a scareactor portraying an undead croupier and an undead cards dealer. There was also an undead waitress holding a head on a platter.

Next, guests would enter a room filled with elevators, one of which holds a scareactor and another holding a human leg that is jammed inside the doors. Guests would then enter a treasure vault containing safes with a large security guard scareactor wielding a weapon of some form. Next, they enter some sort of area with barred windows and a scarearactor hiding behind one of them. They exited through a dilapidated room (where the lines merge) with corpses hanging from the ceiling and a large box called "this end up", possibly referencing how guests have just finished one side of the house. However, before guests leave, they are attacked by one final scareactor straight in front of them.
