S.S. Frightanic: Carnage Crew was one of the five haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights VIII. It was located in the Earthquake Queue along with S.S. Frightanic: Fear in First Class.

History and Location[]

In 1997, a record-breaking movie called Titanic was released in theaters. The movie proved to be a smash-hit and blew up in the box office. In 1998, Universal decided to do a horror parody version of the movie as a haunted house. This haunted house would be a dual house (a house with two entrances to two different houses), but unlike previous years, each house got its own place on the map. The houses would having moving ceilings and other water effects to simulate a sinking ship.

Universal would decide to put both of these houses inside the large extended queue for The Earthquake attraction. This side of the haunted house would be set in the poorer areas of the ship. The other side of the haunted house (set in the fancier areas of the ship) would also be located in the Earthquake Queue.

In 2003, the house would get a semi-sequel titled Ship of Screams. That house would retain the same theme of a ship controlled by ghosts, but would be set on a completely different ship.

The captain scene from this house would reappear in the 2010 anniversary haunted house titled Horror Nights: The Hallow'd Past.

Description[]

Choose your path through an eerie ocean liner that pulled into port years ago with all aboard mysteriously missing. In Carnage Crew you'll venture into the vessel's murky depths and meet a "skeleton" crew who'll cater to your every whimper.

Story[]

The story of this house was said to be that the luxury liner, The S.S. Frightanic, docked in San Francisco after going to Hawaii. On this trip, the ship reportedly got sucked into a black hole and into another dimension. After arriving at San Francisco, the crew went insane and ghosts haunted the various areas of the dilapidated ship.

Walkthrough[]

Queue and Facade[]

Guests would enter the queue of the house to the left of the entrance for Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue. Outside the entrance was a buoy with a number 13 that had signs showing the logos of Fear in First Class and Carnage Crew on it (from here). The queue would go to a backstage area behind the Earthquake building, where the line would loop around multiple times before entering the Earthquake building from the back. In the line, guests would decide whether they wanted to take the Fear in First Class (left) or Carnage Crew (right) haunted house. At the end of the line, guests would be see the entrance to a large port building.

Walkthrough[]

Guests would enter the port building and be greeted with a receptionist area with a female zombie in a summer dress. The people in Carnage Crew would go through an opening on the right while the people in Fear in First Class would go through one on the left. After passing a small building, guests would be greeted with a giant ship with two skeletons reenacting the "I'm King of the World" scene from the Titanic movie. Guests in this side of the house would enter through the right door of the ship. Reportedly, there were corpses in the water on either side of guests.

This house would take guests through the dingier "poorer" areas of the ship. The house made it feel like the ship was moving on the ocean and tried to make guests feel seasick. It also had a few changes in elevation. At one point guests walked through the crew quarters, with one man laying dead on a bed, impaled by a sword. Human bones and other remains were scattered over the bunkbeds, and there was a scareactor portraying a zombified crew member.

Another room was the bridge, with cracked walls, pieces of cloth hanging down from the ceiling, and another zombie scareactor manning the wheel. Another room represented the sick bay of the ship, and had a dentist office with the smell of burning teeth. In the room, an evil dentist could be seen drilling a "patients'" teeth with rusty tools. There was also a meat locker room filled with hanging corpses and an engine room. One report says that the Rat Lady may have appeared in the house, though this is unconfirmed.

Guests exited through a dilapidated room (where the lines merge) with corpses hanging from the ceiling and a large box called "this end up", possibly referencing how guests have just finished one side of the house. However, before guests leave, they are attacked by one final scareactor straight in front of them.
