Rob Zombie's The House of 1000 Corpses Maze (also known as Rob Zombie’s American Nightmare) was one of the five haunted mazes that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights 2000 (Hollywood).

History and Location[]

The story behind this house (no pun intended) is very interesting. Originally this was to tie with the movie but because of it was shelved, this actually predated te movie three years before it was actually released.

Based on the map it seemed to be located in the Universal Backlot as they held mazes in the soundstages there for the 90s and later for every year since 2013.

Description[]

Based on Zombie's upcoming debut as a director and screenwriter.

Trivia[]

  • As mentioned above, Rob Zombie made a movie which this maze was titled and based on and it got two sequels titled, The Devil's Rejects and Three From Hell.
  • John Murdy had said that this maze was before his time. He would go on to bring the house back three times in later years, two of which were in 3D.
  • For a while this and Blood Theater were the last time the soundstages in the backlot were used, 2013 would bring back the use but in a different part of the Studio Tour, the Metro Lot to be exact.
  • Named in the map as “American Nightmare”.
  • The photos were sourced from an HHN forum. It can be presumed that Otis and Baby were present at this house as that forum specified that Dr. Satan did NOT appear in this incarnation.
  • Speaking of Dr. Satan, this seems to based on an earlier cut of the film where Denise was chased by Fulci zombies/ghouls and Dr. Satan never existed.
  • The maze was constructed and opened while the film was still being made. The title was changed at the last minute to “American Nightmare” to appease Universal brass, who got cold feet when the Lieberman Commission in the U.S. Congress came down on studios promoting R rated films to kids. Despite this, we were able to play the trailer on monitors and promote “Corpses” while spectators waited in line.
  • Unbeknownst to fans, Rob Zombie @robzombieofficial often participated in disguise to scare the bejeezus out of attendees.
