History and Location[]
On August 29th, 2013, Universal announced that a haunted house based on the video game series, Resident Evil, would be featured at that years Halloween Horror Nights event. The house would be mainly based on Resident Evil 2 and 3.
The house would be one of two located in Soundstage 21, the other one being The Cabin in the Woods. Soundstage 21 is one of the larger soundstage facilities designed to be used as filming locations for movies and television shows. These two houses would be the first two haunted houses located in Soundstage 21.
This would be the very first haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando to be based on a licensed video game. The event wouldn't do another house based on a game for 10 years, until 2023 when it featured a house based on The Last of Us.
Description[]
Raccoon City is overrun with Umbrella Corporation’s most terrifying experiments, and the only option is complete destruction. Queue and Facade[]
The entrance to the queue for this house was right outside the Universal Music Plaza. The line for this house looped around the inside of the Universal Music Plaza. Various clips would play on a screen erected on the stage. Guests would then start walking towards Soundstage 21 and enter the soundstage from the right side.
When guests entered the Soundstage, they found themselves in a street where Leon S. Kennedy stood on top of a cop car shooting a zombie.
Haunted House[]
Guests continued on as they walked into the Tony's Pizza restaurant. A zombie chef could be seen eating an unlucky victim on the left. Once noticing the guests walking by, he began to lunge at them. Guests continued walking down the hall of the restaurant where they entered the kitchen. Once there, they were immediately attacked by a zombie on their left. As they turn to the right, a female zombie attacks them while eating an arm. Exiting the back of the pizzeria, guests found themselves about to enter a laundromat. Before they entered, they were attacked by a hooded zombie behind some oil drums.
Continuing into the laundromat, guests would find a Cerberus growling as them whilst eating a human on the floor. Next, guests would walk by some hanged clothes as a Cerberus pops its head between them. Exiting out of the laundromat, guests would now find themselves in an alley where a Licker could be seen above them on their left. As they walked through the fog, guests would be startled as Jill Valentine could be seen shooting up at Nemesis, who was shooting a minigun at the guests below, sending blasts of air towards them. Another zombie would also attack guests in this scene.
Guests continue on, finding themselves in a Save area with a typewriter and a few guns. Next, they continued into the next room that represented a paused game screen, where Leon Kennedy could be seen floating above guests. The Tyrant stood on top of a building reaching towards him. Guests then made their way to the next scene, where they would walk through more alleyways and see a zombie construction worker eating an unlucky victim from above while reaching towards guests. As guests turned around a corner, the Hunter could be seen emerging out of a whole in the wall while swiping and growling at guests trying to flee. Entering into the final room, guests could see the Raccoon City Police Station on their right where a Licker can be seen on top of it. Ahead of them, zombies swiped left and right while Nemesis fired his minigun while roaring. A warning voice could be heard saying that Umbrella must be stopped from carrying out their plans. As guests exited the house, they would see a sign displaying the classic "You Are Dead!" black screen from the game.

Trivia[]
- Universal focused on the Resident Evil 2 and 3 video games in this house.
- This was the first house located in Soundstage 21 along with The Cabin in the Woods.
- Universal worked closely with Capcom to build the sets and costumes authentic to the game.
- The Arukas store at the beginning of the house is a reference to a videogame character Sakura, from another Capcom franchise Street Fighter.
- In the pizzeria there is a picture of Sam Meetz on the wall.
- A snack sign from Horrorwood Die-In appeared further into the pizzeria.
- Before the scene with the zombie Dogs there was a sign saying Beware of Dog which was used in the facade of Where Evil Hides.
- The creatives included a special scene towards the end of the house with a "pause screen", as if the house were a giant video game, and that its unseen (and equally gigantic) player had paused the action to either use the bathroom or perhaps answer the phone. Neat idea but was very unpopular with fans of the series who though it was interesting but not scary.
- Winding through a back alley, graffiti lined the walls including one featuring the game character Hunk. (insidethemagic.net)
- The many different herbs that players could find in the game for health and etc. can be seen in different parts of the house.
- Also, the Elm Street sign from A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dreamwalkers appeared in a corner in this house.
- The RPD chopper at the time was the largest hanging project ever in HHN history.
- The Lickers tongue was ripped by an unknown guest and would be removed from the prop and not return during the rest of the houses' run.
- There's key lighting in the house that is directed towards certain items that are very important to players in the game that helps them advanced.
- This year each house had a raven as an easter egg for guests to find, the raven in this house was found in the pause screen room frozen in flight.
- Spirit Seeker's trailer from the Legendary Truth: The Wyandot Estate haunted house during Halloween Horror Nights: Twenty Years of Fear could be seen in the house during the Unmasking the Horror Tour and could be seen tucked away hidden in the RCPD scene near the end of the house.
