Nightmare Alley was one of the three scarezones that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights XI. It was located in Shrek Alley.

History and Location

Originally, Universal was going to have a scarezone called Slasher Alley during Halloween Horror Nights XI. The scarezone would feature the Chainsaw Drill Team stalking guests through red fog. It would be located in what is now called Shrek Alley, an area of Universal Studios Orlando sandwiched between the Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies show (now Shrek 4-D) and Soundstage 44 (now Transformers: The Ride 3-D).

However, due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the scarezone had to be renamed to Nightmare Alley as Slasher Alley sounded too violent at the time. The scarezone would also be toned down, with the red fog and reportedly the Chainsaw Drill Team being removed.

Scarezone

At the entrance to the scarezone (entering from next to Mel's Drive-In), there was a projector shining on the floor showing the name of the scarezone. Littered across the alley were various horror-themed props. Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Chucky, and a gang of movie slashers stalked the night as the soundtrack blared soundbites from 1930s-1990s horror films. There was also a character wearing a Ghostface mask who would shake a can filled with objects to make a rattling noise.

According to some sources, part of the scarezone took place inside of a building.
