Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America was one of the haunted houses that was featured during Halloween Horror Nights 2024 (Hollywood). It was located in Parisian Courtyard.

History and Location[]

Universal Studios Hollywood announced that Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America as one of the original haunted houses coming to that year's event. The house was a sequel to the Monstruos: The Monsters of Latin America haunted house from the previous year featuring some of the infamous “monsters” from Latin American myths and legends. This house was featuring some of the nightmarish monsters from Latin America.

The house would be located in the Parisian Courtyard.

The codename for the haunted house was Churro.

3 Pesadillas. Millones de gritos.

Resist the infernal rider El Charro or he’ll take your soul. Don’t turn your back on the devil dog El Cadejo or you’ll be lost forever. And you’d better behave or the boogeyman El Cucuy will get you.

Queue and Facade[]

The house’s facade is the Cemetery of the Lost Mausoleum with a tree covered in dolls out front and El Muerte on the left side of the facade narrating and serenading about some of the monstruos that guests will encounter as they enter the house.

Guests enter the house and pass by a picture of El Charro Negro. Guests then enter a bar of sorts with a body slumped over a table and are jumpscared by Charro Negro’s horse and Charro Negro himself before entering the next room, which is a small room consisting of shelves with several bags of golden coins as guests enter the next room.

Guests find themselves in hell as El Charro Negro pops out from the right, guests continue down and see burning skeletons and a burning man as El Charro Negro pops out at them, guests go down their right and are scared by El Charro Negro on their left. Guests approach a picture of El Cadejo and a crying infant. Guests go into a cave and are attacked by El Cadejo as they enter a miner’s camp with several desecrated corpses, El Cadejo would attack guests several times as they continue forward.

Guests approach a picture of El Cucuy with his mouth gaping open full of heads of children followed by a child's giggle, the picture is a curtain that El Cucuy pops out of to scare guests. Guests would head outside and would approach a house with El Cucuy on the roof with a sack with limbs of children sticking out as lights flashing as as if a storm is raging El Cucuy would attack from the right as Guests enter the house.

Guests enter the living room with an altar with offerings, day of the dead decorations, and two day of the dead skeletons sitting at a table, a projection of El Cucuy could be seen on the wall as El Cucuy attacks guests from a door.

Guests then enter into a child's bedroom where a static figure of a little girl could be seen on her bed holding her doll as next to her on the bed is El Cucuy's sack of body parts as El Cucuy's hands could be seen crawling out from under her bed followed by her scream.

Guests enter the next room are attack by El Cucuy as he pops out through a curtain, guests make a right as they exit out of the hallway of flashing light.

Guests then exit outside in front of a the entrance inside of El Cucuy's sack with the sound of a little girl's scream and many toys of children adorning the outside of the sack. Guests enter into the sack and into the lair of El Cucuy passing many of El Cucuy's collections of toys, pumpkins and among other things as at they continue through the corridor they are attack by a boy and girl children dolls giggling and laughing as they continue forward they're lunged at by a puppet of El Cucuy popping out of a hole growling at them as they make a right out of the room.

Guests enter a dark hallway and into another room where they have returned to the Cemetery of the Lost and Muerte is awaiting them as he signals them to walk towards with his finger and lunges at them with DEATH created by bones behind him. Guests then make a left and exit the house.

Trivia[]

  • When Murdy & company were convening the first haunted house in 2023 which was originally written in 2022 and saved for later, the house was going to have a sequel and were awaiting the response of guests who considered the first house a fan favorite.
  • The facade of the house is still The Cemetery of The Lost but a different section of the graveyard.
  • El Charro Negro, El Cadejo and El Cucuy were all previously used in the scarezone El Pueblo Del Terror scarezone during Halloween Horror Nights 2022 (Hollywood) and also by design as the zone was used as a testing ground for eventual house or two that being this house and the previous house last year. Each monster gets a redesign in this house.
  • El Cucuys' nursery rhyme from his 2013 haunted house El Cucuy: The Boogeyman to accompany him in his section of the house.
  • The voiceover artist for Muerte returned to narrate this house.
  • The house would feature a lot of puppetry of El Cadejo.
  • Like the last house, each monster will get their own scenes as with El Cucuy who be focused more in this house.
  • The dolls in the tree is inspired by a real place in Mexico, called the Island of Dolls, about a man who lived on an island by himself. One day, a drowned little girl washed on shore and he built a memorial to her with dolls. When he became convinced that he was haunted by her spirit, he obsessively put dolls all around the island until he died, and they were left there to get moldy and scary looking. Now, it’s a tourist site that people travel to.
  • The El Cucuy section of the house incorporates some Dia de los Muertos theming that welcomes spirits at that time of year.
  • In El Cucuy's lair, the giant drooling head of El Cucuy can be seen he has childrens' heads in his mouth.
  • According to John Murdy on his lights on tour if this house is a succeed he would like to see a Monstruos 3 come to fruition.
