Lallorona 2022

La Llorona: The Weeping Woman was one of the eight haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights 2022 (Hollywood). It was located in Parisian Courtyard.

This house would win House of the Year at the end of the event.

Description[]

When La Llorona Weeps, You’ll Scream! You and your scream squad remember the tale of the woman who drowned her children and then herself. Once a childhood fable, she’s back to terrify once again. This is no nightmare. This is La Llorona.

Experience[]

Facade[]

The facade was the outside of the San Francisco De La Espada Church. It lit up with red lighting to form a face on the facade. Guests would then enter the house.

Haunted House[]

Guests passed through an alcove with pictures of missing children and votive candles. Guests then entered the interior of the church where a bunch of static figures of Moaning Women were sitting in the pew. Two of them were real and would pop out at guests. Guests would also see children inside of coffins and a projection of La Llorona out in the rain behind some windows. La Llorona would then pop out from behind a wall panel from in front.

Next, guests would go down a hallway with Statues under arches on the left and right that would flash with white UV as one of them would pop out at guests. Guests then approached a Crypt with an angel statue on it, which would flash with white UV lights that read "La Llorona" over "Maria's" name. Guests entered and saw La Llorona appear and disappear, after which La Llorona would then attack guests from the right.

After that guests would go down a hallway with skeletons before coming to a room with lit candles where Santa Muerte popped out at guests. Guests went down two hallways with the skeletons of children in the crypts and two Decomposed Children would pop out at guests. Guests would enter an empty room before exiting the crypt.

Guests then went across a bridge next to a river where there were dead children floating on both sides. Guests were then attacked by La Llorona on the left before entering the barn. In the barn, guests would go through many corridors where they were attacked by Horse Head La Llorona twice before then exiting the barn.

Exiting the barn, guests were attacked by a stilt-walking Horse Head La Llorona before entering a house. Guests passed two corridors before coming across a painting of La Llorona, which La Llorona would pull back to scare guests.

Guests then entered a child's bedroom with La Llorona on the roof devouring a child as their legs kicked. After that they would enter another child's bedroom where a child was being eaten by La Llorona. Next, guests would go pass a corridor before coming across a giant La Llorona puppet that lunged towards them. Guests were then attacked by La Llorona in a black hallway before exiting the house.

Trivia[]

  • This was the first time in 10 Years that La Llorona has been at the Hollywood event.
  • According to John Murdy, this house is similar to the two previous La Llorona houses, but with some new additions[1].
  • They found the narrator for the 2011 and 2012 House and did a new session with them due to the script being changed [2].
  • The facade for this house was inspired by the "Mission San Francisco De La Espada" church in San Antonio, Texas. John Murdy liked the design because it looked like a face.
  • There was a new video projection in the opening scene. They shot it in the Little Mexico Sets and green screened the La Llorona performer to appear behind the window and disappear as she then pops out [3].
  • La Llorona had a new look that year. In 2011 and 2012, she had a full-face prosthetics look. She now has traditional Makeup redesigns [4].
  • There was a hallway in Parisian Courtyard that usually always becomes a black hallway. In this house, they demanded it to be themed and now it's the Child's Crypt[5].
  • A new look for the Horse Headed La Llorona was in this house which was meatier and more disgusting [6].
  • Before the child being devoured from the ceiling scene, there was a portrait of the Mission San Francisco de la Espada.
  • In the 2012 Version, the finale scene had a child being partially devoured and another being devoured from the ceiling. This year, the two were switched due to the layout of Parisian Courtyard.
  • They remade the puppet at the end of the house [7].
  • There were three large puppets in total all refurbished from the original maze in 2012 featured in this house.
