Island of Evil Souls was one of the six scarezones that was featured during Halloween Horror Nights: Islands of Fear. It was located in the Lost Continent.

History and Location[edit | edit source]

Originally in 2002, when Cindy was planned to be the icon for the Halloween Horror Nights event that year, there was planned to be a scarezone titled Island of Lost Souls. The scarezone would feature a creature called The Nightmare, ruling over a kingdom filled with evil creatures such as orcs and centaurs.

The scarezone would be featured in the Lost Continent area of the park, which was located between Jurassic Park and Seuss Landing. The area had three sections: A medieval village, a bazaar, and ancient ruins (featuring many Greek gods). Due to the linear nature of the park, this scarezone was designed to be the fifth one that guests would enter.

After Cindy was scrapped as the icon, the scarezone was renamed to Island of Evil Souls. The concept and scareactors largely remained the same.

Nightmare would return for the following year's Lost Continent scarezone titled Immortal Island. However, that scarezone would be different from this one, as it mainly focused on a war between the Fire King and the Ice Queen. Despite that difference, the same medieval themes and creatures were in both scarezones.

Description[edit | edit source]

The imposing figure of "Nightmare" blocks your entry to this hellish netherworld of ancient demons and fiery torments. Do you dare to pass?

Storyline[edit | edit source]

As part of his campaign to infect his darkness at the Island of Adventure, Albert Caine aka The Caretaker has Nightmare being forth his orcs to drag the land of myths into hell.

Scarezone[edit | edit source]

Outside of the statue connecting The Lost Continent and Seuss Landing, was Nightmare, standing on a stage. Right past him was a dragon animatronic spewing smoke out of its nostrils. One scareactor was seen riding on a strange creature. Other scareactors included men with chainsaws that had skull masks. The scarezone also featured alot of fire effects.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • This is the first scarezone located in the Lost Continent.
  • Some of the creatures (or just the Orcs) returned in 2004 to make up for the lack of a scarezone in the Lost Continent.
  • The early concept of this scarezone, titled Island of Lost Souls, mentions fire under the entrance bridges, ruined buildings, Centaur-like monsters, scareactors wearing strobelights on their heads, and dark flying creatures shooting fireballs and laughing from the sky. It is unknown whether these appeared in the final scarezone.
  • The original concept also describes a change in the various rides and shows in the Lost Continent.
    • In the Sinbad show, Will and Grace (from the TV show of the same name) and their friends Jack and Karen are going to a costume party when they are catapulted into a world of pirates and monsters. They meet a little girl trapped in some flames named Cindy. She asks for their help in retrieving a mystical red jewel called the Essence of Pure Evil. Cindy then morphs into her true self, a tall and evil demon who uses her powers to try and capture the Essence of Pure Evil while also creating an army of masked killers to destroy the heroes.
    • The original concept also describes a change in the Dueling Dragons ride, in which executioners would roam the queue.
    • Outside of the Flying Unicorn, Nightmare and his minions would try and "prevent" guests from entering the ride. The ride would also go backwards at some points.
    • In the original concept, Poseidon's Fury would be themed to Atlantis.
