Hellblock Horror was one of the ten haunted houses featured during Halloween Horror Nights 31. It was located in Soundstage 23 along with Halloween and would be set in a prison full of supernatural creatures that have escaped their confinement.

History and Location[]

On August 16th, 2022, Universal announced that a haunted house based around a prison full of monsters would be featured at their Halloween event that year. The house would be set in a prison in which a bunch of supernatural creatures escape from containment.

According to popular belief, this haunted house was originally going to be one based off of the 2022 horror film Evil Dead: Rise. However, due to unknown circumstances, that house was scrapped and was replaced by this instead.

This also wouldn't be the first time a haunted house would be located in a prison in which the inmates have escaped, as this was the case for 2004's Hellgate Prison.

The house would be one of two located in Soundstage 23, the other being Halloween. Soundstage 23 is one of the larger soundstage facilities designed to be used as filming locations for movies and television shows.

The codename for the house was Brush as in Monsters' furs must be brushed.

Description[]

As These Monsters Escape Their Prison, There’s No Escape for You!

Enter a prison whose savage inmates are monstrous creatures. If they break free from their cells, it’s a death sentence for everyone.

They too do time for their crimes. In “Hellblock Horror,” guests will have to survive visiting hours in a secret penitentiary that houses treacherous monsters and fiends of all kinds that are hell bent on taking over and destroying the world. The interdimensional power core containing the inmates has failed and the monsters are breaking out of their cells, allowing them easy access to guests, and the exit.

Story[]

The house would take place in a secret prison which holds a multitude of supernatural creatures including aliens, zombies, and vampires that want to destroy the world. The interdimensional power core that powers the prison failed and caused the monsters to break out of their cells and escape. Guests are sent in to try and destroy the prison before it destroys the world by detonating the power core.

Experience[]

Queue and Facade[]

Guests would enter the queue to the left of the Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem attraction entrance. The queue would go towards Soundstage 18, before taking a right and walking behind the locker area for Rip Ride Rockit. The queue would then lead inside of Soundstage 21, where it would loop around many times before leaving the soundstage. Guests would walk along the wall of Soundstage 22 and around the back to the other side, where they would enter Soundstage 23 from the left side.

Entering the soundstage, guests would find the broken-down wall of the prison. Guests would enter the house through a hole in this wall as bright sirens could be seen, and loud alarms could be heard.

Haunted House[]

Guests would find themselves in front of the large security gate for Cellblock 31. Immediately their right, guests would be startled by a security guard calling into his radio for someone to detonate the core immediately while checking the pulse of an already dead security guard on the ground. Guests would walk towards a hole in a nearby wall, where another Guard with a bloodied face would jump out from a boo-hole wielding a baton.

Going through the hole, guests would continue forward towards the inside of the prison compound and walk through a cage like structure, where a large mutant creature walks back and forth behind a chain-link fence. He would sometimes bang and rattle it to startle guests. Guests could also find a silhouette of a guard behind a window wielding a gun and running away. Before entering the prison cell areas, guests would enter a small room with heavy fog and bright flashing lights.

Guests enter into the first section of the prison, where a two-mouthed vampiric creature attacked on the right from behind a cell. Continuing further, they were attacked by a mouthless monster on their left from behind another cell. Further down the corridor, guests would be attacked on their right by a fish-like monster. After that, guests would walk past a chain-link fence intersection, where a zombie would jump out on the left. The zombie would then be shot by an unseen guard. Guests would walk down a corridor with the silhouettes of a prison guard fighting a zombie being visible from behind a door. A zombie would attack guests on the right as they enter the next scene.

The next room was filled with bunk beds on all sides. Corpses and decapitated heads could be seen inside of them. Near the end of the room, guests would find another zombie eating a bisected prison guard, before turning and lunging at guests, causing them to head into the next room. Guests would be attacked by another zombie immediately on the right. They would then find themselves in the execution viewing room, where an Ogre-Like Creature could be seen next to a dead guard and a switch. Chairs would be lined up in front of a window showing a man strapped to an electric chair. The Ogre would pull the switch, electrocuting the man in the chair as guests entered the next room.

After that, guests would find themselves in another corridor where another vampiric monster would pop out from a broken hole in the left wall. Another security guard could be seen across from the hole screaming as a small goblin creature bit at his neck. Walking further, a body could be seen in front of an open containment door, hanging with its back split open and its intestines dangling. As they made a right into another hallway, guests would be attacked by an Alien Scientist holding a knife on their left. Exiting the scene, guests would see the silhouette of a guard being attacked by a large mass of tentacles from behind a door.

Turning right into another hallway, guests would be attacked by another alien eating a leg and find themselves in a larger room with a giant cage in the middle. A Swamp Yeti would bang on the bars and would reach out at guests through a hole in the cage. A door on the left would also show the silhouette of a guard shooting and being beaten to death by monsters as guests hurried into the next room. Guests entered a darkened hallway, where a Vampire Bat Creature would attack from the left and a Tooth Fairy would attack from the right. Further in, guests would see a mass of green glow in the dark faces staring at them from a hole in the wall, as well as an upside-down monstrous vampire bat swinging at them from the ceiling on the right. Another vampiric creature would attack guests as they left the hallway.

Guests would hurry into the power core room, where two creatures on the left, one on a platform with a giant deformed head and a large mouth full of razor-sharp teeth and the other with reptilian features, could be seen on their left. A guard could also be seen on their right on top of a platform. He would press a large red button, detonating the power core and causing the prison to implode in a series of bright flashing lights. Guests would escape into a hallway with a long series of bright flashing strobes. As guests exited the house, they would be attacked by one final surviving creature.
