Funhouse of Fear was one of the six haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights 13. The house was themed to be a funhouse overrun by insane clowns, and frightening optical illusions. It was located in Thunderfalls Terrace.
History and Location[]
In 2003, Universal decided to have another 3D haunted house, but this time it would be themed to clowns. The house would feature many optical illusions and carnival freaks, as well as camouflage scares.
The house would be located in the Thunderfalls Seasonal Restaurant (an area used the previous year for a haunted house), a restaurant located in the Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure (although guests entered the house through Toon Lagoon). The restaurant was closed and cleared out to make room for the house. Due to the linear nature of Islands of Adventure, this house was designed to be the second haunted house guests would visit.
The 3-D haunted house concept would not return until 2007 with Jack's Funhouse in Clown-O-Vision.
Description[]
Nothing is what it seems in this mind-boggling maze of optical delusions and maniacal clowns that will have you running for the exit. Too bad there isn't one.
Step right up! Come inside and enter the world of an eye-corrupting, mind-distorting funhouse, where the clowns and carnies have their own definition of fun.

Queue and Facade[]
Guests would enter the queue right outside of the entrance to Jurassic Park. The queue would wrap around the backlot area of the park in between the Dudley Do-Right ride and Thunderfalls Terrace. In the queue of the haunted house, were various sideshow performers doing various acts on a stage. Guests would eventually reach the entrance to Thunderfalls Terrace, which had a strange box outside of some red curtains. After going through the red curtains, guests would enter the house.
Haunted House[]
Like all of the haunted houses in 2003, this house allegedly had 13 scenes.
The haunted house featured 3D effects and many clowns in various painted rooms that were created to disorient guests. One featured a red and blue painted room with spirals, and scareactors that would blend into the walls. Another, featured blue curtains with a clown head on it.
Legacy from the Horror Nights Nightmares forums made a comment saying that the Treaks and Foons supposedly appeared in this house.

- One of the clowns would have a makeup prosthetic similar to that of Clown from Todd McFarlane's Spawn series.
