Description[]

Welcome to Freddy vs. Jason, a new maze inspired by the 2003 film that brought together two of the biggest icons in horror history. Prepare to be thrust into the middle of an epic battle between Freddy Krueger, from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Jason Voorhees, from Friday the 13th. It's a battle that rages through the twisted landscape of nightmares from the haunted shores of Camp Crystal Lake to the house at 1428 Elm Street. Your experience culminates in a final showdown amongst the burned out ruins of an abandoned boiler factory, where Freddy's evil legacy first began. In this fight to the death, someone must win and someone must lose! Will you make it to the end to find out?

Experience[]

Facade[]

The facade was the Craven Industries Boiler Factory which had smoke and red fire lighting. On the left side were trees and foliage along with a Jason Voorhees static figure that was lit up with lighting. A silhouette of Freddy Krueger would also appear in the bottom left window and explain how he died, came back, and found Jason in hell, convincing him to kill for him . He then goes on to explain that Jason didn't stop killing and that Freddy wants to send Jason back to hell. The audio would then switch to Freddy humming "Dream a Little Dream of Me". Guests would then enter the maze.

Haunted Maze[]

Guests would enter a short factory hallway which led to a room with UV flames on the wall. There was a static figure of the corpse of Freddy Krueger on the ground. The wall in front of him would disappear (via a scrim) and reveal Freddy's victims. As guests exited the scene, Freddy Krueger would burst out of a hole in the wall with UV flames on him.

Guests would then enter the Janitorial Closet where there were shelving units of souvenirs that Freddy took from his victims. On the right was the desk where Freddy Krueger created his finger knife glove. There was a wall that disappeared to reveal the static figure of Freddy Krueger burying his claw into a Young Jason Voorhees;s skull. The wall then reappeared as guests exited the scene.

Guests were immediately attacked by Freddy Krueger out of a hole in the wall on the left as they entered Freddy's Secret Room. On a bed was a Young Jason Voorhees being swallowed by a Giant Freddy Krueger snake. Guests exited the scene and were attacked by the head of Freddy Snake coming out of the wall.

Guests then entered a black hallway with a green spinning light and entered Camp Crystal Lake. Guests would find themselves in the woods and see a sign that said "Crystal Lake". Continuing on, guests would see Pamela Voorhees with a shovel next to Jason's grave which had his mask lying on it.

Guests head further into the woods and were attacked by an unmasked Jason Voorhees. They then approached Jason's Boathouse which was covered in vines and bodies and lighting that represented water. Guests then entered the boathouse.

Inside the boathouse was Jason's Bedroom where a set of two windows showed a projection of Pamela Voorhees's eyes turning into Freddy Krueger's eyes behind his bed. Jason Voorhees then popped out from a wall panel from the left.

Guests then entered a small bathroom where an image of Pamela Voorhees changed into Freddy Krueger from behind a mirror. At the end of the bathroom was a bathtub that had candles and Pamela Voorhees's head behind it. Freddy Krueger popped out from a broken section in the wall to the left of it.

Guests entered the closet of Jason's lair where there were a bunch of decomposing bodies hanging down as Jason Voorhees popped out from behind a wall panel. As guests continued on Freddy Krueger popped out from behind an open wall on the left and Jason Voorhees popped out on the right.

Guests then entered a black hallway with a red spinning light as the were transported to Elm Street. Guests passed by the street sign of Elm Street and saw an Eyeless Girl holding a doll as Freddy Krueger jumped out to the left of her. To the right was another dead young girl on the ground . In front of guests was the exterior of a boarded-up and dilapidated 1428 Elm Street which guests entered.

Inside the house were a bunch of mirrors on the wall. Two Freddy Kruegers and two Jason Voorheeses popped out from behind the mirrors. The mirrors also showed the heads and various body parts of Jason and Freddy.

Guests entered another Elm Street hallway where the walls disappeared to reveal Freddy Krueger on the right side inside his Boiler Room Lair and Jason Voorhees on the left inside a Boiler Room hallway. Both would pop out at guests at the end of the hallway.

Guests re-entered the Boiler Room with an instrumental version of "Dream a Little Dream of Me" playing. Jason Voorhees popped out from the right and Freddy Krueger popped out from the left. Jason Voorhees jumped out again in front of guests as Freddy Krueger jumped out from the right behind a wall panel. Guests then saw Boiler Room doors where Freddy Kruger popped out from the left and Jason popped out from the right.

The Endings[]

In this maze, guests could receive one of two endings:

Guests would enter the Boiler Room with a furnace with Freddy Krueger holding the head of Jason Voorhees as he says "Winner!" and a Camp Crystal Lake sign with the words "Closed" appeared behind him. Jason's headless body would pop out at guests as they exited the maze.

The other ending had Jason Voorhees holding Freddy Krueger's head as Freddy says "Loser!". The word "Deceased" was written on the newspapers of the Springwood Slasher and Freddy Krueger's headless body would pop out at guests as they exited the maze.

Trivia[]

  • The Codename for this maze was "Doris Day" [1].
  • This was based on the 2003 Film of the same name but took some detours. [2].
  • This Maze Reused many Elements from Previous Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street Mazes amongst other Mazes.
  • The Facade for the Maze was the industrial building where Freddy Kruger originally met his demise at the hands of the vigilante mob of Springwood parents. Murdy wrote an audio prologue for Freddy with shadow videos in the windows, though most of it was covered by smoke [5].
  • The Craven Industries facade was named in honor of Wes Craven who passed away in 2015 [6].
  • Jason made a cameo in the facade, appearing in the trees that surrounded it at one point in the loop via a scrim illusion. [7].
  • The Song Freddy whistles out in front is "Dream A Little Dream of Me" [8].
  • Stepping inside the burned out building, guests discovered the dead, still smoldering body of Freddy laying on the ground which used invisible UV paint to create the effect of burning embers. There was also a scrim illusion that revealed some of his child victims behind the wall. [9].
  • In the Janitorial Closet, guests can see Freddy's Glove in the Making on the table as a reference to the Opening of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Freddy Vs Jason.
  • The Freddy snake made its return in the Secret Room Scene, although it wasn’t the one from the earlier mazes, it had to be rebuilt. The twist is that Freddy is trying to devour Young Jason. Murdy liked the idea that Freddy, given his backstory, would prey on the child version of Jason. [10].
  • Lighting played a key role in this Maze. Red was the color they assigned to Freddy. [11].
  • They used Blackout Tunnels with theatrical hazers and intelligent lighting fixtures doing a tight, spinning cone of light to transition between Freddy and Jason’s worlds in the maze. [12].
  • The next stop was Camp Crystal Lake. Here they used Jason’s mother Pamela Vorhees as the voice to help propel the story. The first scene showed her at Jason’s grave, ready to dig him up. [13].
  • Jason’s Cabin in the woods contained the water logged bodies of his victims that he’s lashed to the support beams, the cabin is being supported by the corpses of all the unlucky campers Jason has killed. [14].
  • The Cabin being supported by Body's of Campers Jason has killed was inspired by the 2003 Freddy Vs Jason film in the sequence where Jason goes to the Cabin and in the film you can see bodies in the Water. [15].
  • The Submerged Campers Look were inspired by Creepshow's Something to Tide You Over Segment.
  • Stepping inside the cabin you discover Jason’s bedroom which had a neat video effect. The giant eyes of Mrs Voorhees appear in the windows and then change into Freddy’s eyes. Jason attacks through a hidden door with a body impaled to it. [16].
  • The Boiler room served as the finale section of the maze with Freddy & Jason repeatedly attacking guests, as if they were fighting with guests caught in the middle. [17].
  • The Finale was a rotating ending to show either Jason winning or Freddy winning. The set was designed to rotate so it changed (the Springwood newspaper “deceased” headline on the left changed into a Camp Crystal Lake closed sign). [18].
  • This maze won Maze of the Year in 2016.
