Frankenstein's Monster
The Monster (best known as Frankenstein’s Monster or just Frankenstein) is a Universal Classic Monster that was featured during many Halloween Horror Nights events in both Orlando and Hollywood.
Biography[]
General Backstory[]
Doctor Henry Frankenstein and his assistant, Fritz, would sneak into cemeteries and rob various body parts from graves to construct an entirely new man; to prove that resurrection of human life through science was possible, Henry Frankenstein gave his creature life in his laboratory. Unfortunately, the monster's brain was actually that of a criminal's, due to an accident on Fritz's part, rendering him to be hard of speech yet extremely dangerous. The Creature's grotesque appearance and childlike intellect caused him to be scorned by villagers, as well as his own creator. Though prone to fits of rage, The Creature had a gentle nature and sought companionship. He even almost found it when Henry Frankenstein and Septimus Petorius created a Bride for him. She was horrified upon looking at him, which led to The Creature's destruction of Frankenstein's laboratory and the castle that housed it.
Halloween Horror Nights[]
In 2018, Universal Studios Hollywood would bring back the Universal Classic Monsters in a multi-verse exclusive story between both coasts. Frankenstein's Monster would be among other Universal Classic Monsters brought back out of their graves in a cemetery and terrorizing many of their victims wanting revenge.
In 2019, Universal Orlando Resort would bring the Universal Classic Monsters to Halloween Horror Nights 29, a similar story that of Hollywood's previous house in 2018, in this house The Frankenstein Monster would kill his master Dr. Victor Henry Frankenstein by strapping him to the steel bed that was once used to bring the monster to life and electrocuting him; he would also do away with the Doctors' assistant Fritz by hanging him, and blow Frankenstein's castle in a way to kill himself and The Bride of Frankenstein. Meanwhile, in the same year over in Universal Studios Hollywood, they would continue where they left off the previous year and go on to have The Monster take on a new foe in a retelling of the 1943 film, Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman. Appropriately named Universal Monsters: Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man during Halloween Horror Nights 2019 (Hollywood), the haunted house would pit guests between the journey of the two monsters as they meet their fate in a similar way as the film, but with a twist: both monsters survive their horrifying encounters with one another.
In 2020 & 2021, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood would join together in making a new story retelling of the 1935 film The Bride of Frankenstein, as it was coming up to its 35th anniversary. In the new tale for both coasts with very different twists and turns, The Bride of Frankenstein would survive the events of the Universal Monsters and Universal Monsters: Music by Slash. In Orlando, she was believed to be blown to pieces; and in the California counterpart, she was seen cut to pieces and burned after the events of The Bride of Frankenstein film. Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives (Orlando) and Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives (Hollywood) would tell the story of The Bride on her quest to do anything possible to bring The Monster back to life from killing and taking parts from villagers to even killing and collecting blood from The Brides of Dracula, who would try to hunt her down in the process with no succession in their clutches. She would bring The Monster to life and they would both kill the remaining brides, with their story left to uncertainty after that.
In 2024, Universal Orlando Resort & Universal Studios Hollywood would go on to collaborate a continuation for The Monster & his Bride in Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines (Orlando) & Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines (Hollywood). The house and story would take place after the events of the previous house, but it would be short as The Bride of Frankenstein would witness the end of her beloved monster companion as he would be "murdered" by the She-Wolf of London. Another witness in the matter would be that of Saskia Van Helsing. While on her quest to kill Dracula’s Daughter as revenge for many of her falling members of her family at the hands of Count Dracula, she would try and help aid The Bride, even though they were not likely allies as Saskia and her family were known for being monster hunters. The two would make a pact to defeat Dracula's Daughter and her new unholy alliance for revenge of the fallen loved ones. Although the Monster would meet his end in the Orlando haunted house, he would still be lurking in the Hollywood's houses' climax, leaving many to question what will be next for him.
In 2025, Epic Universe opened in May with a whole new land called Dark Universe. Even though the original Monster was destroyed in the explosion of Castle Frankenstein, a brand new Creature - similar in appearance and speech - would be created by Victoria Frankenstein in her own laboratory in Darkmoor. He appears as a character meet and greet with The Bride of Frankenstein. He also appears at the ride Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment as an animatronic figure. There are multiple animatronic figures in the ride as guests make their way through.
