Universal's Museum of Horror: Unnatural History was one of the five haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights VIII: Primal Scream. It was located in Soundstage 22 along with Universal's Museum of Horror: Chamber of Horrors. This house featured the more modern horror movie monsters.

History and Location[]

Like in the previous year, Universal decided to have a dual haunted house for their 1998 Halloween Horror Nights event. This side of the house would have the modern villains, and would be located in the same place as the previous year's haunted house (Soundstage 22).

Soundstage 22 is one of the smaller soundstage facilities designed to be used as filming locations for movies and television shows. It would share this location with the other side of the haunted house, which featured the Universal Classic Monsters.

This would be the last time modern movie monsters would appear all together in a haunted house until 2003's All Nite Die-In.

Walkthrough[]

Queue and Facade[]

Outside the entrance of the haunted house was a stone gargoyle. The entrance to the house was a giant truss system that had the logo for Universal's Museum of Horror on it (seen here). The beginning of the house was an old, dusty museum with spiderwebs hanging down from a sign with the words "DIE HERE" written on it. The walls were lit by candelabras, and contained various movie posters, including one for Halloween II. This was where the line split.

Haunted House[]

At one point, scareactors portraying Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees could be found standing by the wall. After that, guests walk into another seen which possibly represents The Fly (unconfirmed). The Nightmare on Elm Street theme could be heard just before entering it, so it's possible that Freddy Krueger appeared in that area. However, it is also likely that the music was from the room before with Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. Further into the house, Regan from The Exorcist could be seen sitting on her bed (complete with a spinning head) as music from the movie played in the background. Guests would be attacked by the priests from the movie, warning them about Reagan. The next room featured an unknown scene from Poltergeist as Carol Anne Freeling could be heard in the background.

Following this room was a room in which a child with a knife can be seen behind a fence, most likely representing The Omen. Further supporting this, the next room featured a hanging corpse, most likely representing a similar scene from the film. Next, a werewolf appeared from An American Werewolf in London as clips from the movie played in the background.

Later in the house, a man appeared holding a handle of a weapon while maniacal laughing and wind howling sounds can be heard. This is likely Jack Torrance from the Shining. Guests could hear Danny screaming Redrum. Guests would then enter the Hedge Maze from The Shining, where a scareactor disguised as a bush scares guests. Near the end of the house there was a scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in which loud chainsaw noises could be heard. At the end of the house, guests would be attacked by a figure (most likely Michael Myers) soon followed by Ghostface from Scream.

Two other scenes that were said to have appeared were an alien abduction scene from the X-Files and the woodchipper scene from Fargo. Other possible scenes included The Fly, Candyman, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
