Universal's Creature Features in 3-D was one of the five haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights IX. It was located in Nazarman's.

History and Location[]

This Halloween Horror Nights IX haunted house would be the seventh haunted house located behind the building facades in the New York area of the park (called the Nazarman's area). Back in 1993, Universal built structures and alleys behind these facades specifically for holding haunted houses. This would also be the fifth haunted house based on the Universal Classic Monsters.

Universal decided to add a unique twist to this house. They painted all of the rooms in bright neon colors and gave guests Chromadepth 3-D glasses at the entrance to the house. This would mark the first 3-D house in Halloween Horror Nights history. The 3D glasses were designed to look like Frankenstein's Monster.

The following year, the idea of a Universal Classic Monsters house was once again revamped in Universal Classic Monster Mania. This time, the Universal Classic Monsters would be updated into even scarier versions.

The 3D house concept would also return the following year with Anxiety in 3-D. That house had a completely different theme than this one. It was set in a malfunctioning video game that Jack the Clown built.

Description[]

Put on your 3-D glasses, as some of Hollywood's worst nightmares literally jump off the screen of a neighborhood movie theater at Florida's first ever 3-D haunted maze.

Experience[]

Queue and Facade[]

The queue would go through the entrance of Sting Alley (across the street from Kongfrontation). They would then reach the facade after going down a bit of Sting Alley. According to concept art, the facade was that of an old-fashioned movie theater with movie posters covering the walls, a broken admission window, and blood running down the stairs.

Haunted House[]

The opening scene of the house featured the lobby of a movie theater, complete with a snake bar (where everything costs $6.66).

Some scenes from this house include a bungee scare from above, a Frankenstein, a Dracula and a Wolfman room. The Wolfman room took place in a forest, and featured a nod to the 1999 movie, The Blair Witch Project, in the form of one of the stick symbols found in the movie. According to this, there may have also been a Halloween scene with the "skull pumpkin" from the Halloween poster. Michael Myers would chase guests around with a butcher's knife while the Halloween theme played.

According to some concept art, a scene from Carrie and Chucky may have also appeared. Also, some accounts say that an Exorcist scene appeared in this house, though it is unconfirmed.

Trivia[]

  • This was the first ever 3-D haunted house that appeared during Halloween Horror Nights. Rather than the more common anaglyph or polarized forms of 3D, this house, and all other Halloween Horror Nights 3D houses, used ChromaDepth™.
  • Universal also coated other areas at the event (including the Festival of the Dead Parade) with special neon paint in case any guests decided to wear their 3-D glasses elsewhere in the park.
  • The 3-D glasses resembled the Frankenstein's Monster with complete stitching.
