Description[]

Get ready for three twisted Blumhouse Productions films in one bone-chilling experience. Come face-to-face with the most iconic and unnerving moments from the blockbuster The Purge franchise, Sinister movies and soon-to-be released Happy Death Day.

In The Purge section, you will attempt to survive the night, immersed in the film property's depraved world where all crime is declared legal in the government's annually sanctioned 12-hour cleansing of society. In what can be described as a living trailer for Happy Death Day, you will encounter the deja vu scenario, forced to relive the last day of your lives over and over again, trying to escape a mysterious masked killer. Then, in Sinister, encounter an ancient pagan deity who is determined to trap you for all eternity in the sordid shadow world of the dead.

Experience[]

Facade[]

The facade was a secret underground Purge compound. It had posters on the wall of the Purge films, Happy Death Day, and Sinister. Graffiti on the facade was themed to the Purge as well. There were also blinking construction lights on the facade. Guests would enter the maze through the compound.

Haunted Maze[]

The first in the maze was some hanging bodies and Purge posters. There was also a TV monitor showing people Purging, and a life-like poster for the Purge depicting an American flag that lit up and had guns on it. One of the Prom Girls would then scare guests with a chainsaw as they continued through the gauntlet.

Guests would stumble upon a ticket booth asking guests for admission. On the left would be a car with Christmas lights covering it as another one of the Prom Girls ran towards guests with a chainsaw. Another Prom Girl with a chainsaw roamed the area as well.

Guests then went past a bunch of randomly placed mannequins with Purge masks. Vehicles could be seen with lights of an American flag with various Purgers attacking guests, including the Betsy Ross Purger and USA Mask Purger.

Guests would then stumble upon a woman who had her face melted off from acid, cages with bodies inside them, other bodies outside of them being hung, and a guillotine about to cut someone's head off.

Guests then went into a small scene with an American flag made of bones with flashing lights and a hidden Lady Liberty stilt-walker that would attack guests. Guests would then go into an area with a tree and hanging bodies as three Skipping Girl Purgers attacked guests with machetes' while humming "Ring around the Rosy". After that, guests would go down a black hallway with hanging bodies before exiting the Purge Gauntlet.

Outside the Gauntlet was more Purgers, including the Hooded Skeleton Purger that would go around attack guests as they stumbled upon a large movie theater with graffiti on the sides asking to bring back the Purge. The movie theater was hosting a double feature of Happy Death Day and Sinister. Guests would then enter the theater.

Inside the theater was a life-like version of the Happy Death Day poster. Guests would turn right and enter a college dorm room with a mannequin of Tree in bed. Guests would then exit the scene.

Then, guests would go down a short hallway where the Baby Face Killer would pop out from behind a door. Guests would then enter a small room where the Baby Face Killer would pop out again from a drop down panel. Next, guests would enter another short hallway where Tree Gelbman would pop out on the right with an axe. Guests would then re-enter the dorm room.

Inside the dorm again was no changes aside from the Baby Face Killer popping out near the windows. Then, guests would enter a small room where Tree Gelbman would pop out from the right again with an axe. Guests would then enter an entrance to a tunnel where the Baby Face Killer would pop out from the right.

The tunnel was a long black hallway with two Baby Face Killer scares before guests entered a scene with flashing party lights and a bunch of static Baby Face Killers. Two were real in the scene and would jump out at guests. Guests would then exit the scene and enter a black hallway.

After exiting the black hallway guests would see a life-like version of the Sinister poster. Then, guests would go down a hallway where Ashley Oswalt would pop out from a drop down panel on the left and tell guests to be quiet. Behind a door was a Pepper's Ghost effect showing Bughuul who would then pop out from the left.

Guests would then enter the living room with flashes of lightning and a projection of Family Hanging Out '11. Ashley with an axe jumped out behind a couch full of body parts. As guests were distracted by her, Bughuul would pop out from behind a window curtain.

Guests would then enter a room with a curtain with the rat scene being projected on it. Bughuul would pop out through the projector to scare guests. Guests would then exit the scene and enter the outside of a church with lightning flashing. Before guests entered the church, Milo would pop out at guests with a sickle. Guests would then enter the church.

Inside the church, guests would go down a few church hallways with boarded up church windows and lightning coming from outside the church windows. At the end of the hallway, Bughuul would pop out at guests on a horde cart. Guests would then go down a black hallway with two Bughuul scares before entering the rat scene.

In the rat scene was a mannequin of Milo recording four people (two real, two fake) tied down with a bowl and burning coals as rats dug through them to escape. Before exiting the scene, Bughuul would pop out at guests from behind a curtain.

Guests would then go down a long black hallway with two Big Daddy's Minions scares (one with a shaker can and one with a machete). Guests would then come face to face with Big Daddy as he shoots them with a machine gun. A distorted version of "Let's all go to the Lobby" played in this scene. Guests would then go down another black hallway to exit the maze.

Trivia[]

  • All the way back in December 2016, Jason Blum pitched Murdy the idea of doing a compilation house based on various Blumhouse films [1].
  • It was heavily rumored that Get Out was initially intended to be included in the maze, but Happy Death Day was chosen over it. The likely reason for this is that the social and political commentary that is integral to Get Out's story would not have translated well to a maze, which Murdy has stated in the past as to why the film has never featured at the event [2].
  • Murdy had stated prior to doing this maze he had wanted to do a standalone maze based on Sinister, which likely led to its inclusion in the maze [3].
  • A couple years ago Murdy was at LAX going through security on my way back to Ireland. Suddenly the guard comes running towards him & he thinks, “Uh Oh!” It was the “Kiss Me” Candy Girl from The Purge at HHN! She just wanted to say hi. Thought he was busted [4].
  • The life-like posters in this maze were transitions to each film. The Purge's was the Purge Anarchy poster, Happy Death Day was the poster for the movie, and Sinister's was a poster of the girl dragging the blood across the wall [5].
  • The maze starts in a secret Purge compound, set outdoors. At the end of the third Purge movie, the Purge got banned, so it’s now gone underground with radical elements that are still purging [6].
  • The Purge compound facade had posters from the various films. Including posters from The Purge breakout which isn't a film but a experience that was done by Blumhouse.
  • The facade has a warning construction sign that accidentally misspells children as "chi dren"
  • A majority of the props and costumes within The Purge section were reused from the Purge: Election Year scarezone from 2016.
  • The characters for this section of the maze were pretty much a greatest hits of characters from the various films [7].
  • Pat Quinn created the crazy American flag made of weapons that was a Purge teaser poster featured in the house[8].
  • Entering the Purge section, there was a ticket booth with a sign saying "Purge Admission $5 Bucks a Head".
  • The sweet licks from Clowns 3D: Music by Slash was in this section.
  • The police car from AVP: Alien vs. Predator (Hollywood) was in this section.
  • In the Purge Gauntlet, there was a wall with graffiti on it that served as a reference to Frankenstein.
  • There was a sign in the Purge section saying "Free Acid Wash" pointing to a static figure of a girl with her face smeared off and a canister of acid next to her.
  • The Acid Girl was a mannequin from Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield.
  • There was graffiti above a body saying Kiss Me as a reference to The Prom Girls Purgers.
  • At the end of the Purge portion of the maze, guests have to get through a gauntlet of all the bodies that have been purged [9].
  • The proper facade for Horrors of Blumhouse was actually after The Purge section. The concept was a run down movie theatre hosting a horror movie festival and then The Purge happens and it gets trashed by The Purgers [10].
  • The graffiti is to cement the idea of how they want to keep Purging with phrases as "Bring Back the Purge!" and others.
  • The Happy Death Day section was a last second replacement for another property [11].
  • In the background of a photo posted by MageeFX, there was concept art for an character not in the final product. The character looks very similar to the demon from Ouija: Origin of Evil.
  • In the Dorm Room, there were a bunch of books, one of which was titled "Obsessing Three Months Ago: Five Nights at Freddy's".
  • In the Dorm Room, there is a Can of what looks to be Red Bull but instead it says Red Wingz.
  • In the Happy Death Section, there was broken glass case for a emergency axe and the next scare after that is tree with the axe.
  • For the end of the Happy Death Day portion, they combined a couple of ideas in the film that includes a scare with six guys in the baby-faced mask, only two of which are actual performers [12].
  • That brings guests to Sinister. A lot of people kept expecting the static figure girl on the dimensional film poster to jump at them [13].
  • In the Oswalt Family Murder scene on a table, guests could see the drawings by Ashley of her family chopped up and where Bughuul pops out. Underneath that guests could see papers with text from the novel that Ellison was writing.
  • Also in the Oswalt Family Murder scene guests could see the murder reels from the film in a box: Pool Party '66, Sleepy Time '86, Yardwork '88.
  • Outside the church, Milo pops out with the scythe but in the film Milo never has the scythe. The scene has dialogue from Zach Collins and Zach does have the scythe in the film.
  • The moving Bughuul in the church was a variation of the zombie horde cart from The Walking Dead: No Safe Haven (Hollywood).
  • Guests can spot a static figure of Milo behind the Rat scene filming it.
  • At the end of the maze you re-entered the movie theatre and heard a messed up version of “Let’s All Go to the Lobby” they created. Guests think that’s the end but the Purge is still going on and Big Daddy is waiting for them [14].
