Ship of Screams was one of the six haunted houses that was featured during Halloween Horror Nights 13. It was located in the Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges Queue.

History and Location[]

In 2003, Universal decided to have another house based on a ghost ship after the S.S. Frightanic: Carnage Crew and S.S. Frightanic: Fear in First Class haunted houses in 1998. This house would be called Ship of Screams and would follow the HMS Friday instead of the S.S. Frightanic.

It would be located in the large extended queue for the Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges attraction, located in the Toon Lagoon area of the park. Due to the linear nature of Islands of Adventure, it was designed to be the first haunted house that guests would enter.

This would be the last haunted house featured in this location.

Description[]

This aging cruise liner was found adrift at sea without a soul on board. Now its decks are roamed by a ghostly crew and passengers. Will you be joining them?

'The HMS Friday set sail in January of 1913.  It was one day found mysteriously adrift in the Atlantic Ocean with not a soul on board.  Now parked and slowly decaying in the harbor, passengers and crew of this ship from long ago have returned and are hungry for company.  Will you see land again, or will you become a passenger?"

Story[]

The HMS Friday set sail in January 13th 1913 and disappeared. It reappeared 90 years later with seemingly no one on board. However, the ship is haunted by the ghosts of the dead passengers.

Experience[]

Queue and Facade[]

Guests would enter the queue in front of the S.S. Olive. The facade was a wall that showed a woman in a sailor outfit with words saying "All aboard... Swell Sailing Ahead". The front of a large ship was also painted on the facade.

Haunted House[]

Like all of the haunted houses in 2003, this house allegedly had 13 scenes.

From here.

Rooms in this haunted house were themed to a ghost ship (called the HMS Friday for the house), including the bridge and the ship's lower levels. After walking through the facade, guests would climb up some stairs, which had portholes on either side containing scareactors which would stare at guests. Guests would also enter the control room, where the captain manning the steering wheel would yell "you're going to die in here". There were flooded rooms and doors containing the ghosts of the ship passengers. The finale contained swinging luggage on the ceiling.

Scareactors[]

  • Women in blue dresses one 5X
  • Crew member in coveralls and head lamp 2X
  • Men in white dress clothing 2X
  • Man in white dress jacket shirt and pants

Trivia[]

  • Most of the scareactors are wearing light clothing (dress pants shirts jackets) and scareactresses (blue dresses) and pretty much all of the ships crew are wearing darker clothing.
  • This was the last house that was located in the Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges Queue.
  • This house was loosely inspired by the 2002 film Ghost Ship.
