Sam in the Trick 'r Treat scarezone in Orlando.
Sam was a scareactor that appeared during Halloween Horror Nights 27. He is the "main character" of the film Trick 'r Treat, a demonic being that enforces the rules of Halloween, often with fatal results.
Backstory[]
Sam's role was to uphold the traditions of Samhain/All Hallow Eves and Halloween at their core that were set thousands of years ago. Sam's iconic look with his burlap sack mask and outfit are supposed to representation of a pumpkin and a scarecrow. Michael Doughtery had wanted Sam to represent the holiday's dual nature: cute and creepy; fun and frightening; mischievous, yet malevolent. He had become an unofficial mascot and symbol for Halloween.

Trivia[]
- Sam's name is short for Samhain known as the Gaelic festival on 1 November marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or "darker half" of the year.
- Sam's was originally doodling created by Michael Doughtery while he in class bored.
- Michael Doughtery had spent 9 months hand-drawing the Short Film Season's Greetings which centered around the character of Sam as a Senior Thesis in NYU.
- Doughtery would feature Sam in greeting cards that he would create and send out to his friends and family and would go onto sell the cards to a local shop in Burbank for distribution.
- Sam found his ways in other animated short as Hellmark Cards in 2001.
- Upon realizing that many holids like Christmas having Santa Claus, Easter had an egg-laying rabbit and Valentine's Day had chubby winged children that shot arrows at your heart, Halloween was missing a mythological mascot and there were many dime-store decorations featuring witches, ghosts, vampires and scarecrows, but there wasn't a central figurehead not one creature stood out from the pack, to Dougherty it made no sense and only made the holiday to him more mysterious and intriguing and he knew that the character had to be out there, he was just hiding.
