Dungeon of Terror: Retold was one of the seven haunted houses that were featured during Halloween Horror Nights: Sweet 16. It was located in the JAWS Queue.

History and Location[]

For their 2006 event, Universal would decide to have all of their haunted houses (and scarezones) be sequels or prequels to landmark houses and scarezones in the past. One of these would be Dungeon of Terror: Retold, a sequel to the very first haunted house at Horror Nights, The Dungeon of Terror. This would also serve as the second icon house for The Storyteller, since Where Evil Hides from the previous year.

Other than the name, the house would have almost nothing to do with the previous Dungeon of Terror houses, as instead of focusing on an actual dungeon with torture victims, the house would be a roadside attraction haunt where The Storyteller's redneck family would kill visitors.

After not being used for a haunted house for 14 years, the extended queue for the JAWS ride was finally used again for this haunted house.

Description[]

Enter and old roadside haunt where the Storyteller's whispers call you deeper into hell.

Off the beaten path lies an old roadside haunt. In its day, it it would lure tourists by the thousands. Now, it is only visited by the occasional lost traveler. Enter the Dungeon of Terror, where mysterious whispers call you deeper into hell. A place where the Teller of Stories demands the undivided attention of her "guests". Once you make the mistake of entering the Dungeon, you'll wish you had not because no one can leave until Her story has been told.

Storyline[]

The Storyteller had bought and reopened the formerly popular Dungeon of Terror. She had turned the attraction into an even more twisted nightmare, and the actors? They were turned into the real creatures they were playing.

Website[]

On the Halloween Horror Nights: Sweet 16 website, guests could enter the backstory page for the house by clicking on a pair of bloody scissors on its description page. There, guests could click on and see a picture of the facade, The Storyteller's codes and commandments, a book illustrating the punishments given to those who break the rules, and an excerpt from an article advertising the attraction. Guests could also click on scissors to hear a slicing noise, and a book to hear a story from the Storyteller (which could be a possible origin story for her). The page also had tickets, knitting needles, a skull, and a necklace.

Queue and Facade[]

Guests would enter the queue for this house in between the entrance of the JAWS ride and the Fear Factor Stage. A scareactor outside the entrance of the queue would advertise the house to guests passing by. The queue would loop around a few times before guests entered the facade for the house, which featured a sign saying "Dungeon of Terror", a green goblin, an arrow with the words "This Way to Your Doom" on it, and a skeleton standing on the roof. Throughout the queue of the house, various scareactors would entertain guests. After passing that, guests would enter the house.

Haunted House[]

After entering the facade of The Dungeon of Terror attraction, guests would be greeted with The Storyteller sitting down in a chair in the front desk/gift shop. The next rooms featured black-lights as the only lighting, as they went through scenes of real-life serial killers portrayed by cheap animatronics. Then guests entered the backstage areas, which had many redneck scareactors torturing people. The further the house went on the gorier and more intense it got. Some of the scareactors had pig masks, one of which was holding some kind of saw. One person was tied up to a board that squirted water. The finale had women on stilts.
