History and Location[]

On August 10th, 2016, Universal announced that an original haunted house that served as a sequel to the 2004 haunted house, Ghost Town, would be coming to their Halloween Horror Nights event that year. The codename for this house was "Mustang".

The house would be one of two located in Soundstage 24, the other one being The Walking Dead. Soundstage 24 is one of the larger soundstage facilities designed to be used as filming locations for movies and television shows.

Description[]

Instead of gold, they found death and destruction. Now their souls wait for others to join them.

Experience[]

Facade[]

Guests entered into the soundstage and saw a wooden sign saying, "Entering Lightning Gulch". They would turn and see the facade, which was the outside of an old western jail. Next to it, some unfortunate souls could be seen hanging, one of them rotten to a skeleton. On the left was a hearse with some caskets.

Haunted House[]

Guests then entered into the old jail where a cowboy popped out with no hands. Entering into the outskirts of Lightning Gulch as a raging storm lit their way, guests were attacked by a cowboy on their right shooting his pistols in the air. As they continued forward, guests were then hit with a blast of air as an old woman shot them with a shotgun, warning them to back off before stepping back into the dark. Guests continued and were hit with another scare by another cowboy on their left.

Guests then entered into a hallway where a peppers ghost of a showgirl provided a distraction for a showgirl to catch them with a scare, leading them into a brothel room. There, guests were scared by a cowboy shooting them in a hole in the wall on the right before continuing forward and seeing a bed with the skeletal corpse of a woman on it. They were then scared by another cowboy before continuing into the next room leading into the saloon.

Entering into the saloon, guests were distracted by a western showgirl behind the bar equipped with a shotgun who shoots at guests. This served as a distraction as the piano player popped out of the piano on their right. Exiting the saloon, a cowboy screeched at guests from above. Guests then enter the outskirts of the town where they were attacked by a cowboy on their left. As they continued, they were swiped at by a cowboy brandishing a knife.

Guests then found themselves walking in the middle of the town as it continued storming. They were caught in between two cowboys before heading forward into a mine shaft. Guests would walk over a bridge across a large canyon as they were attacked by a miner on their right. Guests continued into the caves which were exploding with dynamite. Guests would be attacked by multiple miners before leaving the house.

Trivia[]

  • One of Blake Braswell's favorite Halloween Horror Nights scares of all time is from this house. In the Bar, there was a scareactors that would appear from inside a piano. He was unaware of the scare until actually experiencing the house and loved it so much.
  • This house was not a reboot or sequel, but a requel. The creative team reimagined/revisited the town of Lightning Gulch in a whole new light by expanding the origin of the story.
  • On the desk when entering the sheriff's station, there was a piece of paper on it next to a wanted poster. On the paper was a list of names of infamous serial killers like Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, and Aieleen Wuornos.
  • In the house, there was a cow skull with the symbol of the Goblet from Iron Bone Gorge.
  • Guests would witness the remains of the victims of the town before seeing their ghostly versions throughout the house.
  • The coffins on the wooden wheelbarrow are actual used coffins.
  • The wanted signs scattered in the haunted house are either related to the team or actual creative members of the team.
  • A little opened journal with glasses on top of it in the first has some of notorious serial killers written in it such as Eileen Wuornos , Mister Zodiac which is supposed to be a play on The Zodiac Killer, Charles (Charlie) Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, David Berkowitz, Ted Bundy among others.
  • A scene that features some rotten hands with an axe next to them is supposed to be of a ghost that is featured in the same room.
  • A portrait of The Storyteller is featured in the haunted house.
  • In the bar scene, one of the frames features a picture of an actual autopsy that they had found online from way back when.
  • An effect that made guests feel like they were high above by using mirrors sides of the mine scene that was used similarly for the ship bridge in Interstellar Terror during Halloween Horror Nights: Reflections of Fear and a scene in the Gothic haunted house during Halloween Horror Nights 22.
