Description

Universal's infamous legacy of horror comes to life in an all-new terrifying experience that re-envisions the classic horror icons for the 21st century and immerses you in modern horror inspired music. Venture through the rotting remains of an ancient castle -- if you thought you were alone, think again. Follow the trail of corpses through pitch-black passageways as you find yourself in a crypt of bloodthirsty creatures. There's no turning back! Try to escape the clutches of the monsters that started it all and watch your step-it may be your last.

Trivia

• After years of struggling with Halloween Horror Nights overlays in the House of Horrors venue, John Murdy finally said, “Screw it. I’m just going to turn it into a rave". The original name for this maze was “TerroRave".
• To turn the maze into a rave, the team brought in a huge sound & lighting system and blasted horror-inspired EMD tracks in an effort to inject some energy into the experience. Dr. Frankenstein was the DJ & pinup-style versions of The Bride were the club dancers.
• Despite the wacky approach to the maze, the creative team still tried to make it scary. John Murdy the music/light show actually helped provide the perfect distraction. Some of the characters had scary designs, like The Mummy Warriors from the 1999 film & the 2010 remake of The Wolf Man.
• Renfield in this maze was outfitted in a Victorian madhouse inmate uniform with a smile inspired by the 1928 silent film “The Man Who Laughs".
• The hair of the Hunchback character was inspired by a picture John Murdy found of Punk Rock pioneer John Lydon (AKA Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols).
• To John Murdy's surprise, the maze became the dark horse hit of Halloween Horror Nights 2012, far exceeding guest ratings for any previous House of Horrors overlay and holding that record until the very last one, when Face Off: In the Flesh finally beat it in 2014.
• The maze heavily featured the music of artist DJ Figure. Murdy stumbled across his album “Monsters of Drumstep” and thought it was the perfect soundtrack for this maze. It began a long collaboration with them for Halloween Horror Nights, including 2019’s “Holidayz in Hell".
