"Shit, they're everywhere!"

-Charlie McPherson

Charlie McPherson was the third of Dr. Mary Agana's patients. He was a freelance photographer who was linked with several other characters in Bloody Mary's backstory, but was most importantly hired by Boris Shuster. Upon his death, his ghost was trapped in the Mirror and was the photographer in the Dead Exposure haunted house that was featured during Halloween Horror Nights: Reflections of Fear.

Background

He was born on April 26, 1918 and got his first camera on the age of 5 by his father Shawn in 1923, who was a freelance photographer. Charlie carried on the legacy and was hired by the Metropolis Tribune in 1948. However, his career declined when he was fired in 1955 (presumably due to extreme antisocial behavior and an “one conviction of disorderly conduct” as noted in Mary’s journal entry) and began working for private investigations, which brought him to Boris.

He was treated by Mary for claustrophobia as well as seeing horrifying images in his photographs. Dr. Agana placed him in an air tight glass coffin with the bulbs of Charlie's camera to make the illusion of the images in Charlie's photos. Charlie was given a choice to stay or face his fears and break out of the box. He stayed in the box, and he eventually suffocated. Dr. Agana discovered two things: watching a man die rather than face his fear was an unexpected thrill to her and that the moment he died, she swore she heard music. His passing was what inspired Boris to investigate Mary in the first place.

Fate

After his death, Charlie McPherson resided in the Mirror where the witch Bloody Mary oversees. There Charlie was trapped in the realm of Nightmares, where he was facing off around hordes of zombies and at the end was consumed by them and turned into a zombie himself.

Trivia

  • Charlie has similarities to many private eyes from the 50's. His look was inspired by the character Ash from the 2003 direct-to-dvd film "The Animatrix".

Ash, the character who apparently inspired Charlie McPherson.

  • It is theorized that Charlie is related to Emily and Kimberly Duncan from this house’s prequel from Halloween Horror Nights 28, Dead Exposure: Patient Zero. In postcards that Emily sent to Kimberly, she tells her to “grab Charlie, go to Grandpa’s, and quarantine yourself.” The postcards also featured the same address that was on Charlie's press badge on Dead Exposure's façade. While Kimberly's surname was different, it's possible she married someone and took on the Duncan surname. Based on his press badge, Charlie would be two years old during the events of Dead Exposure: Patient Zero.
  • In 2012 it was revealed that Charlie McPherson is a part of The Kerezan Legion, most likely due to him becoming a zombie.
  • This was the only patient of Dr. Mary Agana to make a physical appearance in the event.
  • A reference to his name is seen as place called McPherson's Cards and Comics on a receipt located in the Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Tribute Store for the upcoming HHN 32 Tribute Store.
  • There are two different versions of Charlie McPherson within HHN's storylines: the patient Charlie and the Dead Exposure Charlie. Dead Exposure's Charlie differs from patient Charlie both in the time of birth (Dead Exposure Charlie was born October 20, 1980, according to his press badge on the house's façade. Patient Charlie was born April 26th, 1918, according to Mary's journal) and in location (Dead Exposure's Charlie never moved to New York, patient Charlie moved with his father in 1923).
