History and Location[edit | edit source]
Due to the success of the previous years 3-D haunted house, Universal decided to create another one for their Halloween Horror Nights event in 2000. This one would be located in Soundstage 22 along with Total Chaos. Soundstage 22 is one of the smaller soundstage facilities designed to be used as filming locations for movies and television shows.
The house would be tied in with the event's icon Jack, as he created a malfunctioning video game that plays on the primal fears of humans, which was the setting for this house. This could also be considered the first house based on a video game, even though the video game it is "based on" doesn't exist.
The 3D house concept would be absent for two years, until returning with Funhouse of Fear in 2003.
Description[edit | edit source]
Enter the 3-D virtual reality of The House That Jack Built, and find yourself trapped in a malfunctioning 3-D video game.
Experience[edit | edit source]
Entrance[edit | edit source]
The entrance was lit with red lights. Between the soundstage pillars were a large sign with the words "HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS" and two smaller signs with the words "TOTAL CHAOS" and "ANXIETY", showing the way to the eponymous haunted houses.
Haunted House[edit | edit source]
The house took place in a video game Jack made to make people experience many different things that invoke fear. Reportedly, there were rooms featuring spiders, rats, heights, and confined spaces. According to this, there was a room with Ghostface masks covering the walls. According to this, there was a room where guests were surrounded by rotating mirrors. There was also reports of a giant circular room with a rotating floor (which may actually be the "rotating mirror" room stated previously) and a room with a giant tarantula.
The Revolving Tunnel seemed to have made an appearance in this house, as well as the "Eyeball Room" which was featured the previous year in the Psycho: Through the Mind of Norman Bates haunted house. The room would be completely covered in eyeballs (ping pong balls) and a scareactor wearing a completely black suit covered in "eyeballs" would camouflage into the environment and jump out at guests. Additionally, there may have also been a giant Jack in the Box with Jack popping out of it at the end.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The 3-D Glasses seemed to be called "Jack's Eyes". They would allegedly be painted to look like Jack's face.
- The Revolving Tunnel (a spinning and disorientating tunnel that guests would walk through) appeared in this house. The effect would later be used in many haunted houses, with the next one being Scary Tales during Halloween Horror Nights XI.
