Trivia[]

  • Murdy was very determined to show the “micro-nap” aspect of the film – the hallucinations that begin after having no sleep for 70 hours. In the film, it’s merely an editing trick, but John wanted to show it somehow in the maze. It ended up being more simple than he thought – a scrim. A scrim is a light-weight, woven material, and one of the oldest “illusions” that started in early theater. It can be painted, matching the surroundings, but once it’s lit from behind, the surface will disappear and it is see-through.
  • A few rooms in the maze were not in the theatrical release; they were either cut, or would be released as deleted scenes on the DVD of the film. One of the scenes includes the finale, which helped Murdy who loves to change things up a bit and twisting guests' expectations.
