A Nightmare on Elm Street is a horror film franchise by new line cinema, created in 1984. The main villain of the franchise was Freddy Krueger, a character who has appeared in various haunted houses of Halloween Horror Nights history.

Universal Pictures partnered with the company to license houses/mazes for both Hollywood and Orlando based on the franchise during many different years.

The Franchise[edit | edit source]

It was envisioned by Wes Craven who drew inspiration from a childhood encounter, and news clipping regarding a patient who died in his sleep with no viable cause of death. He used it as the basis for Freddy’s power and design as a dream killer. The film was released in 1984, and proved popular enough to inspire several sequels and a crossover with Jason Voorhees.
